I've been thinking of buying a set of instructional DVD's to give me the basics on using sticks and/or baton for self-defense. Is this a good way to get around my lack of monthly funds? Any DVD's you can recommend?

  1. they can never replace real instruction.

  2. Find a good instructor and explain it to him. He may teach you if you help out around their school. I trained with Dan Insanto a few times at seminars over the years and he never asked me to pay (back in my poor college kid days). I am sure you can find some one to help you avoid making the mistake of self learning.

  3. Why not try getting a book and a CD.  At least you could learn the basics.

  4. Salutations,

DVD's can give you a taste of the form, and let you know the equipment you will need, but after a month or two of practicing from this I hope you will have tried to save some money for real lessons and people to spar with. Watching it on a TV, is like shadowboxing, and that is only one small part of training. Cheers
