I've seen this question asked a million times on the internet and I haven't found an answer that works.

It's an IBM T41 laptop.

It plays video and music just fine from a CD.

I've updated the latest BIOS for the laptop.

as near as I can tell (automatic update from Leveno/IBM) I have all drivers.

I've tried three separate burning software (MSFT, IBM, and UltraISO)

When I try to burn it always offers a message that says no disc is inserted, etc

  1. The T41 doesn't have a burner/writer, it's a DVD-reader/player only.

    You'll need to buy a writer plugin-module or a USB-writer.

  2. It doesn't burn CD's.It will say no disk is inserted because there is nothing on it.

  3. Your "eye" in the tray may be dirty or sctached, that can happen even if they play cd's. HAve you tried more than one type (brand) of burnable CD? Sometimes you can buy a whole pack of CD's that are bad.  (i have)

there may be a bad connection from the tray to the program that controls the burn,

Also assumimg you are using burnable CD's in the first place.......
