I am a 19 year old American guy and, chances are, will be going on a year-long study abroad (vacation) this February thru November at Griffith University. I am finishing up my application, but have NO IDEA what campus to pick between Nathan and Gold Coast. Both Brisbane and the Gold Coast look like REALLY fun cities, but I am wondering if anyone can give me some general info. on each place, and tell me which campus has better professors, living arrangements, etc. I know Griffith doesn't have living arrangements on the coast, and am wondering how hard/expensive it is to get a place as an International American student.

I am taking almost all business classes. Does Griffith have a good business school?

One more thing. Are all the classes beginning with 1000 first year, 2000 second year, 3000 3rd year 4000 4th year, etc. etc.?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help and advice!!! It is very much appreciated!

Dave

  1. Both Uni's have good Business schools but if i had to choose i would pick Brisbane for one main reason it will be cheaper for you to live here the gold coast is very expensive as you said no Campus living as with nathan you can live on site and i would imagine that would be a lot cheaper. There is also people looking for other students to share rented houses to keep the cost down. Good luck with whatever you choose

  2. It's probably six of one, half dozen of the other.

Looks like the Nathan campus has the most business course, but you may want to check exactly where the majority of your course will be.  No use living in Brisbane if 80% of your course is at the Gold Coast campus.

Attached are two websites - the local transport and the one about the city and stuff happening in Brisbane.

  3. The Brisbane campus mate. The Gold Coast one is smaller and living there would be FAR more expensive. Brisbane is just as fun, and its miles cheaper, the Gold Coast is a very very expensive place to visit, let alone live in. And yes, 1000, 2000 is 1st year, 2nd year etc.

  4. Definitely go with Nathan campus, if you're choosing the best uni. But if you want to live near close to the beach and the sun n' surf, then Gold Coast.

Getting a decent apartment is going to cost a fair bit anyway, as the rents are getting higher and higher. Depending on where you're living in both cities, is where the cost of rent is going to get you.

Transport is great for Nathan campus, there is a bus station with buses every few minutes to the city (central business district), southbank (man made beach in the city), and the valley (night clubs, eateries, festivals).

  5. i dont know anything about the unis but i guess if you like the beach and great night life theme parks then gold coast is the place to be.

other wise brisbane is just another typical city.

but the gold coast is almost a city in its self.

i lived in both places and the gold coast is alot better.

and with there not being any uni places to live on the gold coast thats most prob because the place is full of apartments flats houses there are plenty of affordable one rite in surfers paradise.

    you will love it.

and its only 1 hour from brisbane so if you wanna go there it wont take long to get there

  6. Bisbane Uni is better and cost of living is cheaper,

if you like LA youll like the goldcoast better than brisbane, but the goldcoast is a stonesthrow away from brisbane anyway so you can go down and visit as much as you like, if you care about the uni then go to brisbane. There are trains that go to the goldcoast from brisbane every 30 minutes
