Ok so a few weeks ago the current stable where i board my horse went up in price (New owner went from $325 to $350 in a matter of 2 weeks after buying it) and other boarders are starting to get angry because hes making us pay for every little thing. and if you want a horse to be kept just on pasture it cost $100, and if you want to use the barn utilities it an extra 100. and for full care and barn utilities its $350. Hes also making everyone pay like $700 for deposit and last board at the end of this month. everyones all in a huff about it because they think hes trying to scam them because they already paid deposit way before he bought the stable. so my mother and a few other boarders have an idea that at the end of the month to leave to another barn that was just built and is fairly private (only 10 stalls) but its not as big or nice as the other one (it only has 1 arena, my current one has an indoor and outdoor, and this new one does not have alot of tack room space either)

  1. Boarding is getting more expensive. Part of the reason is the increased cost of gas. You might not realize it right away, but where does your hay come from? It has to be trucked in. And that costs gas. So boarding fees are likely to go up everywhere. Now if you can find a better deal then take it, but an indoor arena is huge. I would give my left leg for an indoor arena in winter time.

  2. Change barns.

Don't let him take advantage of your family and others.

  3. Wow... I know you're not going to want to hear this, but this one has to be made entirely by you. I can't really judge the barns as I can't see them, but if you feel that you'll be getting more worth for your money at this new barn, then go for it. I, personally, wouldn't stay at a barn that I felt was 'scamming' me. Are there any other barns in your area other than the 2 you mentioned?

Well, it sounds like you have more reasons to stay than to leave. Good luck!

  4. i would say thats its def up to you. thats a really tough decision. if you stayed, you would be with your friends but it costs more money. if you switched, then it would cost less but you might miss the people. you could always keep in contact though and go for rides together. but if money isnt an issue, then i would stay with your current place. i hope i helped.

  5. if you already paid a deposit, that should have been included with the information of the sale from the old owner. He should only be able to collect deposits from new boarders that come in during his ownership. Do you have your contract from when you first started boarding at this barn? If so, if you paid a deposit, it should have a section in the contract stating what the deposit was and have your parents signature there to show it was paid.

  6. Well you said that every one will be moving there. So you friends will be coming with you. ANd its not like you cant keep in touch with the trainers.

Im sure in time the new place will have more areans. And expand. Since its closer you will be saving money on gas, and on barn.

I dont know to much about barn managment, i have my own land to bored my horse.

But that sounds like a scam to get money. he knows that people will stay there because its nicer, and he will only raise the prices mroe. Soon he will raise the lessons aswell.

Would you rather move to a new one and still ride, or stay where you are bleeding the money out of you, and end up never being able to ride again because you cant affored it.
