long story short, i have to either do track or golf at my school. i hate both of them, my real sport is tumbling, but that can't count towards out extra curriculars, cuz its out of school.

help me decide, with these pros and cons: (keep in mind tumbling is tuesdays and thursdays at either 5 or 6)

Track:

pros- the coach thinks i would be good at it bcuz i do tumbling, its at school, and i know people who are doing it

cons- i have shin splints bcuz of it, i don't like running, and practice is everyday!

Golf:

pros- practice is only 2 days a week, the girl coach is really nice

cons- we have to get on a bus and go to a golf course, those big ol' golf bags, puts, etc..., and i don't know of any of my friends doing it.

i've been doing trach for about 2 weeks, and i was looking for something else cuz i hated it so much, and golf is the only other thing available. so what should i do?

  1. My opinion-

    I would run track and field.  You have plenty of time to hate golf later ;-).... I love golf personally, but you should run track for the following reasons;

    a) Better conditioning overall than golf, even though high schoolers are regulated to walk (I live in Iowa).

    b) More interaction with your schoolmates while at a track meet.  Golf is foresomes and you are with them for 2 or 3 hours.

    c) Golf is harder to get good at quickly, where as in track, you could be naturally fast, or a gifted shot-putter and won't need as much instruction.

    Good luck!

  2. You seem mostly concerned with what your friends are doing or will think as opposed to what you really want to do, but track is basically left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot........boring.  Golf offers a unique challenge on every shot, it combines physical skills with mental challenges, and you learn life lessons as opposed to saying I got from point A to point B in so many seconds.

  3. Having run track in HSchool (PVault, 330 lows, 220, 440 & Mile Relay) I will say - GO GOLFING...  I actually also played Tennis for some 30 years, and man do I wish I had played golf earlier =)

Pros - Your flexibility and understanding of rythym will be GREAT for your golf game.  Since you also already have the ability to learn motions/movement, I would't sell yourself short on being able to learn the game quickly (other than putting - and that is pretty much another game by itself.)

The cardio aspect is also not something to look away from.  You walk the course, you carry the bag - this will improve your stamina.  It also will help your concentration, and that should carry over to gymnastics.

Additionally, as said before, golf is a lifelong game - something that can't be said for either track or gymnastics.  You will learn a protocol of behavior that _will_ be used when you are in college, in a profession, etc.  You will also be able to become aquaintend with locals that play on great courses - some that most people won't ever see.  Not a bad 'perk'.

Personally, I would try to change your thought process to "WOW, the school is teaching me golf!"  Some of us out here in the real world spend LOTS of bucks getting lessons, and you get them for FREE!

  4. Why would you do anything you hate?  Just do something else.  It's not worth it to do something you hate when you don't have to.

    And what is tumbling?

  5. Play golf.  No brainer.

  6. Depends on how long you intend to play these sports.  1 year, 2 years, i don't know.  Not much point in taking up golf for that Length of time, takes years to improve at it.  Whereas with track, you can see slight improvements everyday.

If you don't like golf already though, i wouldn't advise trying to do it.  You will just get more and more frustrated when you cant do it.

Unless your a natural of course, in which case I will eat my words.

  7. IF YOU HATE THEM BOTH WHY DO EITHER ONE?

  8. i do both golf and track. im not very good at either but i would definetly pick GOLF. the clothes are awesome and you get to walk around a beautiful golf course alot. your very flexible so your swing should be pretty easy.  golf may seem dorky to some people..but it will last until you are 80 years old. and its VERY classssy. =) good luck choosing. ps. i hate running too!

  9. Golf, you already said the coach is nice and you will meet more friends. Outside in sunshine and fresh air, green grass

and besides the LPGA is always looking for new players.

  10. Golf.   Your gymnastics skills should help you focus on the course.

  11. how severe are the shin splints , you will be traing on rough surface , tape real solid  i think the part of golf you would enjoy is club throwing  or  club breaking  i think you will fail class  /go with the track shin splints hurt . doctor referel study hall and a pass
