Question:

I can't defragment my computer...where is the "chkdsk"?

Went to defrag my computer - it wouldn't allow me to. The message stated I had "chkdsk" scheduled and it needed to run first. This has been a week now and I'm getting a little frustrated. So where is the "chkdsk", how can I either get it to check what it's supposed to or turn off the scheduling? I looked in the scheduled tasks, no luck.

Please explain as simply as you can - I am NOT very literate when it comes to computers!

  1. Go to Start/Run then type Chkdsk and hit enter

  2. It may mean that chkdsk is scheduled to run the next time you reboot the computer. The chkdsk program can't test or repair the boot disk (generally the C: drive) while the operating system is running, so it schedules it to run on the next reboot just before the OS loads. Have you rebooted it lately?

  3. try staring up your computer if it asks you to check your hard drive let it do it.

If not try downloading Piriform Defraggler. You can download it at the address below.

  4. What OS are you running? DOS 3.4 or later? which one? I assume youare running windows of some sort......
