I have 2 Yorkie/Shihshuz mix. They call it a Shorkie. I have 1male 1 female, total 2 dogs. The female is very good at going out to pee, but the male isn't. I don't want to have the male dog fixed (i have my own reason). He is only 8 pounds and very little and very cute.

But i have come to thepoint that i can not stand him peeing next to the sofa, next to the table, next to the traskcan in the kitchen, I CAN'T STAND IT. I've tried so many methods. I read the info on internet. I practice and he still pee in the house. everytime i go home, i take them out immediately in the backyard so they can pee. it's been almost a year since i got the male one and he was born june 2007.

Please help me. WHat should i do for him to not pee in the house anymore. Is it because i don't have him fixed??? or because he is the male, it is his instint?

Please help me. I'm willling to try any method you recommend.

Thank you a lot a lot a lot. PLEASE HELP ME.

  1. Are you crating him? That's the best method of housebreaking. The male dog is probably marking his territory because of the female being in the house. If you're crating the dogs, and following the rules of crating and that doesn't help, then getting him neutered is probably going to be the only thing that will. Good luck!!

  2. WEll Dogs ususally pee in the exact same place so you should try putting a wee wee pad somewhere in the house where it has already peed. This method is really effective

  3. Really, getting him neutered will help quite a bit.

It won't be an immediate fix as it takes a few weeks for the hormones to leave his body.

Believe me, you won't regret having him neutered.

Below are the results of Max's neuter

Max has always been a very happy go lucky, get excited jumpy dog, who played with toys on rare occassion, and enjoyed hanging out on the porch all day long. He'd come inside for about 30 minutes and want to go out again.

That was before his neuter. After his neuter I've noticed:

Max still likes spending time on the porch, but only for about 20 minutes at time, and then he actually BARKS to come back in. That's new, I've always had to bring him in, he never asked to come in.

Instead of hanging out on the porch all day he's content to lay near my desk, or in whatever room I'm in.

He's still the happy go lucky, get excited jumpy dog. He's still very active, but more focused.

And the big bonus, he plays with toys now. Before he'd play with a select few if you got him revved up about it, now he loves toys. So he's actually playing MORE.

My boyfriend was a little disappointed when he found out Max was getting neutered. He was worried he'd change to much. But even he is enjoying the changes.

  4. The best product I have seen that will help you with this problem is called Happy Jack Dog Diapers. They work like a charm, and are very well made. Take a look at the testimonials on the website:

    http://www.BestDogDiapers.com

    They are good for:

    TERRITORIAL MARKING

    INCONTINENCE

    MEDICAL ISSUES

    EXCITABLE URINATION

    HOUSEBREAKING

  5. Have you tried kennel training? If he is peeing in the same spots I suggest going to a store like Petsmart and buying a spray like nature's miracle or petzyme. This completely eliminate the urine smell which doesn't signal to him that this is a potty spot.He smells the old urine and thinks this is where he is suppose to go. DO NOT use bleach or any product with bleach to clean up the pee; bleach has ammonia in it.

  6. Well, me and my husband got a new puppy about a month ago.  She kept peeing every where and so we had to start taking her back to the spot and spanking her (Not hard, just a little slap that hurts her feelings).  So we bought puppy training pads and put them in the kitchen and put a baby gate at the kitchen so she can't go any where else.  There is something about the pads (by Hertz) that makes dogs want to pee there and thats what she started using.  Just this last Monday we took down the baby gate and she roams the house while we are gone, but still uses the pads.  We will be buying them for the rest of her life because they are leak proof, easy to pick up and really cheap.  $6.00 for 24 and we use one a day.  Good luck!

  7. Yes, neutering will help. Please take a training class, and talk to a pro trainer! I too was very frustrated with my first dog, until I took a training class and learned that everything I was doing was wrong!

Males will commonly "mark" their territory by urinating. Neutering will help!

ADD- sorry, but there is no single answer that works for everyone. It depends on a LOT of variables-- this is why a pro trainer would be good. They will ask a lot of Q's and see what you are doing, and what he is doing.
