I can't even run one mile. After only 1/2 i feel like my heart is going to come pounding up my throat and can't hardly breathe. My breaths are more like gasps and it feels like my legs are going to fall off. I need help, and fast! I'm young and should be able to complete a mile with no problem at all.

  1. Do you have Asthma,

I have Asthma, but i am a runner and so my airways are stronger than when I wasn't running

    Just keeping practicing running

Over time you will be able to complete the mile

Here is some advice, when you are running and you stop, keep walking don't go to a halt otherwise your body won't recover.

Trust me at times i feel like my legs will fall off too, but you are stronger than you were the day before

  2. I am like that - even though i am young, walk 2 miles a day minimum and am quite fit. Maybe you are just not cut out for running, and its not so good for your joints anyway. Why not try swimming, tennis or trampolining, which are more fun and relaxing ways to keep fit and excercise more of the body. This means you are likley to keep doing them if they are more enjoyable. Alternatively, buy a cross trainer which have less impact on your joints than road running, and are more effective. All of this will increase your fitness and stamina.Hope this helps. Good luck.

  3. try running a bit slower. you are probably going out to run a mile and expecting to be able to run a 5 min. mile time. even if you're running slower than you can walk, keep going. it takes time...the first time i tried to run a mile, i succeeded, because it's in my family to keep going. but my friends struggle with a mile, and they finally succeeded after much practice.

    sorry for rambling :)

    good luck. keep running.

  4. Talk to your doctor.  If he/she okays an exercise program, start by walking, then increase walking speed and/or distance, then do walk/jogs, then all jogging/running.  Getting in shape takes time.  It is a commitment and a process.  You need a plan, beginning with something small, with attainable goals at each step.  To get in better shape, manipulate the FIT plan.  This means, gradually increase  frequency, intensity and time.  Take good care.  Also, have fun!

  5. Are you in decent shape, physically? I am, and I used to not be able to run a mile either. Start doing some aerobic exercises daily to build up your endurance. Jump rope is a really good way to train. Jog. I play DDR haha. It took me two months to build up to where I felt comfortable running more than a mile.

  6. its better to go 2 miles slow than 1/2 mile hard. so for the meantime just go slower until uve got a better hold on it and then u can go faster and farther :-)

  7. If you are not conditioned to running, you are going to need to take your time.

Just run easy  until you need to walk and then walk until you feel like running again.

You should be able to complete the mile in a couple of weeks.

Try to take deep, full breaths, don't gasp or pant.

    Relax.

  8. u should try to pace ur self and take deep breathes to help. try once a day or so and try to run a little ,walking if u need, and everyday you'll be getting closer and closer to a mile.just keep trying.

  9. How old are you? And what is your current weight? It may be a good idea if you start off with a light jog daily. And progression will come your way sooner or later you will be running 1 mile without such trouble.

Please do answer my questions asked above.

  10. Im in the same situation after having a baby and being 20lb overweight. I used to run a lot and be very fit, but recently when I started working out, to my horror I could only run for 2 mins before becomming completely out of breath. I started a beginners program at Runnersworld.com, which does interval training between running and walking, week by week increasing the amount you run. Already I can feel my self getting fitter and im only a couple of weeks into the 10 week program. The ultimate goal of the beginners program is to build up to 30 mins continuous running. Good luck...if I can do it, anyone can!

  11. you should see a doctor mate serious , that ain't right

  12. have you been running for a while now? if not, just run half a mile everyday and gradually up it. when i first started running i couldn't even jog for 5 mins without almost having a heart attack. it's definitely improved since then.
