I'll usually just be in ready position then actually falll for the ball. This sounds stupid but I have carpet burns from practicing diving. Is there any hope? Any Tips?

  1. Me and my sister have the exact same problem. I don't like to dive that much, normally, when I try, I end up hurting my knee really badly.

So what I've tried to do is just practice the diving thingy anytime i can. it really helps. Do it over and over and over again until you get it right, then try it with the volleyball and see what you can do

  2. I just thought I would write and tell you that I have the SAME problem. It just doesn't work. My coach and I have practiced, but I still just can't seem to get it "perfect." I am gonna put this question on my watchlist so I can get any tips people give you. :)

  3. stop being scarred and just get on the floor. it doesn't hurt 1 bit i can do anything except for set( but im getting better) so dont give up and just work extra hard at it like i do with my setting and u will start to get results.

  4. our team uses knee-pads which you should try but you can't start to rely on them and throw urself on the floor everytime the ball comes at you cuz it does kinda throw your aim off if you have to hit the ball when you're on the floor.  You should also learn how to dive correctly you don't use you knees. Maybe you should go to camp. They might even teach you how to do the pancake. Also, you might just need to get over your fear of hitting the floor, i mean if you truly have a passion for volleyball like i do then it should hurt your pride if you let that ball hit the floor. just something to think bout. good luck.!

  5. Don't think, just do. The more you do, even if it's wrong, you'll figure out how to do it in a way that's right for you.

Oh, and try to keep your head and knees off the ground.

  6. im not good at diving but in a game, my natural ablity kicks in and im a great divers, i know it hurts when ihit the floor but im used to it now. i dont have to do it alot caue im 6 foot tall, a hitter and dont get to play backrow as much. but jsut know how to do it correctly andmaybe your natural ablity and not letting the other team get the point will make you a better diver and make it now hurt as much.

  7. Practice on muddy grass. Yes,  I know all you volleyball players aren't as tough as us basketball players but do it anyways! Muddy grass works because eventually you will have fun! Have fun with that!

  8. lol

u need to get nee pads!

    =]

and keep on practicing its gonna take time until u master it

best of luck. my wisehes to ya.!!

  9. Well, you sound like you are afraid to dive for the ball, so you might have a fear of it. However, diving doesn't hurt at all if you dive correctly. A tip would be to have a huge drive to get to the ball and to just lunge for the ball. You also need to just dive for the ball rather than think about diving for it. You might also want to try to roll after you dive for the ball, because then there is less impact put upon you when you dive (and it's fun!!). Hope this helped!

  10. Okay my answer may seem lame...but I agree 100% with "Texas"...

Our coach took our kneepads away too....it taught us to either dive on our stomachs or stay low enough and get to the ball quick enough so we didn't have to dive.

It'll hurt at first but after a while you sort of get used to the pain....especially if you make a good play...you just forget about the pain.

Practicing in the grass will be easier....but if you don't practice on the floor of the court...you'll be surprised because you won't be ready for the potential pain.

Never give up....you'll get it eventually.

Remember: No pain = no game!

    Good luck!!

  11. have no fear...wear slick clothes and go for it...roll...it will save u in the long run...oh and STOP PRACTICING ON CARPET

  12. When you are in ready position you must be as low to the ground as you can be, it helps you move faster. I used to play with no knee pads because or coach took them away due to the fact that we would throw ourselves for any ball (BALL FIRST THEN FLOOR!!)

Also, if you are diving correctly you should not have any burns at all, but of course it will happen. When you dive you should not fall on your knees, you should kind of slide on your stomach or when you roll you should not let yourself fall you should do it lightly. I know it sounds kinda hard but you should practice alot and i know you will get the hang of it.

    Good luck and ACE it!!!!

    Discipline + pride=success

And who said volleyball girls aint tough come to texas and youll see lol

  13. I was scarred at the beginning to at diving because i would always think about getting hurt then i forgot about diving then my in-stink told me to and i did it! One you re calm and your in-stink tells you you'll be fine plus knee pads help ALOT! Best wishes

  14. best place to practice is on an actual volleyball court. get knee pads and have some people spike the ball for you. it'll take you a while depending how long your practicing. but you'll get used to the fast hits and you'll be digging the ball perfectly.

  15. Before u slide make sure that u have knee-pads on..... next put ur knees on the floor.... get ur coach to pull u across the floor.....  once u get used that the all u need to work on is sliding on ur knees by ur  self!! It may sound stupid, but I had the same problem and my coach did that same exsact thing to me. Now i'm 1 of the best divers on the school team..

HEY GOOD LUCK AND TRY UR BEST!!!!

  16. You shouldn't be diving. It means your not predicting the ball placement. Or you are not quick enough. Be sure to be low to the ground for any incoming ball.

Diving can't be forced. In a time in need, your brain will kick in and take over, and you will dive for that ball.
