Question:

I can't ever win at chess?

It seems like no matter how well I do during the game I can never checkmate the opponent!

  6. I'm like you. Read up a little bit. It should help.

    I am very wary of making opening attacks. Also, when I do make a move, I do it without considering all pros and cons. Make sure that every position that you play you fortify your pieces.

    Another tip, always make moves with a goal in mind. If you try to do this, you will be forced to think harder about each move.

    You may play untimed games in the beginning to get you in the habit of thinking through each move. Also, learn to recognize patterns. Get hold of a book explaining mating patterns. Try "How to beat your dad at chess" to start. It will boost your confidence to see some mating patterns. Good luck.
