I don't know why this happening. I can't fall asleep because of the saliva in my mouth! I want to go to bed but i can't because i have to keep swallowing my saliva. This only happens when something interesting is going to happen the next day and i think its happening because tomorrow i start cross country and I am excited.

This all started last year, the night before school started, i couldn't fall asleep because of my saliva kept building up in my mouth and i had to keep swallowing it and last year i remembered i started to cry because I couldn't sleep.

[Do any of you have an answer to why this is happening?]

I am going to get a physical tomorrow, should i mention it to my doctor, or will it sound like i'm paranoid.

please help.

i might try taking a bendryl to see if that works.

what else will help?

  1. Maybe You should drink alot of water then lay down in bed

  2. It's probably a mental thing.

It's probably no more saliva than during the day, but at night when you're trying to sleep - you're focusing on it way too much. The more you think about it - the more it happens and the more it bothers you.

Seriously, since reading this question- i've swallowed about 6 times.

I don't even remember swallowing at all during the day! Of course i have. But i'm noticing it now because i'm thinking about it.

    Does that make sense?

Try not to worry about it. If you drool - so what?! And hopefully you will stop noticing it.

  3. Yes, try the Benadryl. It will dry your mouth and help you sleep. But mention it to your physician tomorrow. You may have an anxiety problem.

  4. Please... mention this to your doctor, there are treatments for this, you shouldn't have to suffer... good luck

  5. Drink a bunch of water is what I would do. Or if you drink a bunch before bed drink less.

Benadryl will help you sleep. I take Aleve instead. Don't take them together!

Yeah mention it to your doctor. You will probably see him like 10 times or less in your life and he has so many patients he will forget about it. It's not that embarrassing of a question anyhow. Who care's what he thinks.

  6. Your sinuses are just draining.  Go to bed a little early so you can lay on your back for about 1/2 hour and read or something.   That will give your sinuses time to drain.  By the time you finish reading, you will probably be able to sleep.

  7. EAT SALT !

  8. Of course you mention this to your Doc.There may be something he could give you to relax you before special events the next day.

Sounds like nerves to me.  Try some breathing exerciseses.  Your Doc can show you how.
