i'm reading a book that i need to annotate and there's something that i want to highlight but i'm not sure what it is.

a preacher says, "there were bits of Jesus coming out of my mouth every time i talked."

i don't think that's a metaphor, right? it's something else.

  1. It is in fact, a metaphor.

  2. It's a type of trope very similar to metaphor, but it's actually METONYMY

This is a literary device that replaces something with another through close proximity. In this case, the "bits of Jesus" are in reference to "bits of bread". The difference is that a metaphor compares two things that are seemingly unrelated.
