I have a samsung digital cam that records on DVD-Rs. the model number is sc-dc173u. I had the battery fully charged and the disk was full. Why couldn't I finalize it?

I really need it so that it can play on the dvd player, all the videos are of my son, he will be 3 months soon.

If I burned it on to another dvd-r would that work?

  1. Are you using a DVD-R or a DVD+R or a DVD+RW? If it's a DVD+RW then those are rewritable disks and can't be finalized. I have not had much experience with rewritables.

You can't make a copy of a mini DVD- or mini DVD+ and put it on another DVD, it just won't work because the video needs to be converted.and you can't play a rewritable on a TV's DVD player.

You might try to download Handbrake( it's free) and see if you can convert the files to something your computer can recognize. This is what you would do if you wanted to edit a finalize a mini DVD or make copies of it. I used handbrake with success but I haven't tried a rewritable. I hope this helps you as the first 3 months of your childs life is a precious thing to lose.

  2. I've no idea why you can't finalise the disk - hopefully there's an easy answer.   If there isn't, you won't be able to copy to another disk!  You should be able to recover the contents with IsoBuster though and copy them to your hard drive.  After that you can burn them to a new DVD and look at getting a new camcorder (one that doesn't use DVDs!).
