Question:

I can't find clothes to fit my 5 year old daughter for school.?

Before anyone gets nasty or makes a comment about bad parenting let me state that my daughter's growth pattern is not unusual and she is perfectly healthy and active. I have a 5 year old who is about 67lbs and she is average height for a 5 year old. She is a bit bigger than your average 5 year old though. Her growth pattern gives me grief in buying pants for her though. She is about a 10/12 in waist but the length on those size pants is WAY to long for her. Does anyone know where I can find a "husky" style pant made for kids like her until she gets a bit taller? (my sister and my uncle grew in this pattern but they rolled up pants and paid to have them altered, they are also tall and thin now so I have that to look forward to later on.) My daughter starts kindergarden this year and I want clothes that fit her so she won't get picked on. Any answers ould be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

  1. Go to your local JC Penneys. There is a section called "Plus Size Little Girls". I shopped there when I was younger and the clothes are very cute too. They come in sizes such as 8 1/2, 10 1/2. And the pants run very short! Good luck

  2. JC Penny makes plus sizes for little kids, they are great. Just ignore all the people who are going to lecture you.

  3. I would just hem her pants for her for or put her in shorts or skirts or JC penny sells a 1/2  bigger husky line for girls and mreryn's sells plus size for kids line of jeans put I don't know if they would work. My kids are all really tall and skinny. Sorry

  4. Most brands carry the plus sizes for girls but seem to start at size 8 which are probably too long for your daughter.

Why not just elastic waist knit pants? She is only 5 and should be comfortable all the time. I think with the baby doll style tops and pull on knit pants she will look stylish, cute and be comfortable. Maybe the capri leggings in the size 10 might fit her as ankle pants.

Check out Hanna Andersson online. They seem to have a lot of "waist friendly" clothing. (Their play dress with bike shorts or leggings underneath is adorable!) Also most of the stores (Old Navy, Lands End, JC Penney, Children's Place, Gymboree, etc.)  have leggings and yoga pants for girls her age.

I think there are plenty of clothes out there that will be both stylish and comfortable for her. I hope she has a great time in kindergarten.

    Good luck shopping!

  5. I think a capri pant would be really good.  In a size 10/12, the length would be just right for a long pants for her.  You can also do a lot of skorts and skirts...when it starts to get chilly, get some thick tights for under them.

  6. i have the same problem with my five year old, she is 50lbs and short for her age, i found a pair of arizona brand pants, at a yard sale they were a 5 1/2, first time i seen half sizes in chilldrens, and they fit perfect, so check it out.

  7. Penneys has pretty plus sizes in a lot of their clothes.

Lands End and The Childrens Place have pants with inner elastic button waists you can let in and out.

  8. I have the opposite problem

My daughter is a size ten length and a size 7 waist

    She is tall and thin

People tell me to by slims

Slims are shorter than regulars, and a size ten slim waist still does not fit

I have several friends with your problem

IF the waist fit, shorten the pants

You bring them to a tailor, a family member or do it your self

They have things you can iron to hold up the pants

I am not sure what I am going to do, the tens are getting short, they no way a size 12 will fit

  9. have you looked at every single store and shop???

  10. you could alway start with shorts and capris and skirts.

i have to opposite problem with my kids. they are too tall and skinny for most clothes. kids growth patterns can just leave you dimbfouinded. then they wake up the next morning and they have out grown all of it.lol

  11. lol i had that problem in 3rd grade either the waist was to big or te pants we to long. bow im 5'6 and everything fits me perfectly dont worry just let her wear shorts skirts and capris untill she gets into a normal size :]

  12. Kids are amazing! Everything at Walmart seems to be Husky! JCPenney carries "Husky sizes"  But Skirts, Skorts and Capris are very stylish!

  13. Can't she wear dresses and skirts instead?

But you are mistaken - her growth pattern is WAY unusual - she is miles off the top of the centile chart for weight. Not just a little bit, but pounds and pounds. Being off the centile chart for one measurement but not others is the definition of "unusual". I'm not accusing you of bad parenting - but she is not growing normally. She just isn't. Normally would have her weighing somewhere between 35 and 50 lb. You need to be aware of that, not just say it's not unusual, because that simply isn't true.

  14. www.makeyourownjeans.com

  15. J.C. Penny's, Target, Old Navy, those type of places. Not to be an insult or anything, but if she is getting overweight, sign her up for a sport, because I was 67 pounds when I was in 3 grade.

  16. I believe J.C. Penneys has husky sizes for children.

  17. JC penny and the childrens place has husky sizes and really cute clothes but I know someone else with this prob and she buys alot of the stretchy pants for her daughter which is what is in style this year so they will be really easy to find they are really cute too

  18. I too have this problem with one of my daughters. You can find girls plus at JcPennys and Limited Too has half sizes that makes a HUGE difference in length. I often times go for the skirt and tights thing with my daughter b/c its cute and easy in the fall/winter months that way you dont have to mess with the whole pant thing! Its so hard I know 1st hand , but hang in there and dont let anyone judge you or your parenting, as long as she is eating properly and is healthy thats all that matters. A little baby cub will all go away as she grows.

  19. try Kohl's or Macy's they sale clothes for husky or plus for girls and they also carry for short girls good luck
