  1. Have you been to this site?

    http://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/

It should have everything you want to know

  2. Cockatoo Island is an island smack bang in the middle of Sydney Harbour, and was once a dedicated convict prison. It has just been opened to the public as a camping ground, with 135 camping sites. It's only accessible by a 10-minute ferry (or water taxi) ride from the centre of Sydney.

You can book a camping site but you are limited to the amount of time you can stay to about a month (if I rememember correctly). It has barbecue, shower and toilet facilities. You can take your own tent or hire one!

The site shown below has all the information you need, including prices.

Let's hope people respect the area and cherish the opportunity to camp in an area of national heritage.
