Question:

I can't find jeans that fit my kids properly. They are tall and thin!?

Ugh, every year I have a nightmare of a time trying to find pants for my kids. (8 and 10 yrs) I always have to find them a slim size with the elastic adjustable waistband and even then they are practically too short as soon as I buy them. At Christmastime I bought them both 5 pairs of pants and they were too short within a month and a half. Probably most of that was from the fabric shrinkage. I usually shop at JCPenneys or The Children's Place...is there another store that would have more selections? Has anyone else had this problem?

  1. Old Navy!!!

  2. I have a daughter with the same problem, then I discovered that Target carries jeans that have an adjustable waist band. On the inside of the jean is an elastic band that has button holes, you can adjust the band to what ever size you need and there is no way to tell from the outside of the pants that they have an elastic waist band. Has been a huge help for my daughter.

  3. The places I like are Target because their jeans tend to run longer, Old Navy, The Gap, and Gymboree.

  4. get the long ones in their size and make sure it a a waste band

  5. i have the same problem,,my twins are very tall and lean.  they need like a 6 waist and a 12 long.  i have found my daughter levi's that have an adjustable waise and long legs.  my son usually has wranglers.  there are times when i still sew my daughters pants down a bit and put a tuck in the back or side seam.  i know this year (they just turned 11) they have hit a growth spurt YET AGAIN and this fall searching for school clothes will be *ELL.  keep trying,,,i have heard that old navy has a good jean selection for kids too.

i have noticed in my shopping that everything is being made BIGGER ,,,i guess the designers think that EVERY child in america is "overweight",,,it is very hard to find the slims,,,but there are a MILLION husky sizes.

  6. i had this exact same problem when i was a kid! Old Navy had great jeans for kids because they had elastic in the waist band and a button on each side. so you would pull the elastic and then put it on a button and then they would fit!

  7. i used to have tht problem and my mom bought me pants with slim &adjustable waists at gap

she purposelly bought it like a size or 2 bigger and if the waist was too big, she'd sew a tiny fold in the back so it wouldnt show

and i remember tht gap's pants were really comfortable, too :]

  8. You mentioned Penney's, if you are comfortable shopping online, you could always order online at JCP.com. And return them to the nearest store to their catalog department if they don't fit. There is usually more selection in sizes online than there are in the stores. I know it sucks ordering online because you cannot try them on right away, and the other downside is if you order them than return them for any reason other than defects, you don't get your shipping back, but it's a thought. Might also try tj maxx or kohls.

  9. I have this problem with my almost 7 year old.  His waist is 18 1/2 inches.  According to JCPenney's size charts, a size 7 slim has a 20-21 inch waist.  In other words, most brands of slim jeans fall off of him.

With that said, the brand I've had most success with is Arizona Jeans Co, which Penneys does carry.  That doesn't mean the store will have the right size in slim in stock; it may have to be ordered online.  In my case, I got a lot of 6 or so jeans/pants on Ebay that had minimal wear.  Which is great, because I am unwilling to spend almost $20 on a pair of jeans when my son goes through 6 pair a year.  I think I paid about $25 for all 6 pairs!

I only tried one brand with an adjustable waist.  It was a slim from Old Navy.  Yes, the waist fit, but the hips and legs looked absolutely huge.  It was a very very very relaxed fit.  I haven't bought an adjustable waist since.  If I have to, I sew a tuck on both sides of the waistband, but I haven't had to do that recently with the Arizona slim jeans.

  10. how small are they?  can they fit into a size 0 in the junior's section?  those pants are usually longer.

i went through the same thing.  wore a lot of dresses and skirts

  11. I have this problem too and the best place for me is Sears.

  12. It's going to be tough bc they are so thin, but you could look at Old Navy or online at www.delias.com or www.alloy.com in the junior's section. You could try getting a size 00, that's pretty tiny. If you need to, get them some belts to wear until they grow into them. I always had that problem, too. At least you're trying to find something for them, there's nothing worse than going to school in "high waters" lol. And I agree with the previous post, I buy all of my kids clothes on ebay. They grow so fast it's insane to buy brand new clothing every few months! Good luck!

EDIT: are they boys or girls?

  13. My daughter has this problem too, we have found that the ralph lauren brand which I buy at Dillard's always carries her size with the adjustable brand and the long skinny legs.
