I need to pay my landlord but I can't find my personal checks and I don't want to send cash through the mail. What are some other options?

  1. Lot of good answers here.

However, technically you don't need your personal checks. You can simply write out the same information that's on a check ("Pay to the order of __________________ the sum of __________________.") Date it, sign it, and put your account number on it. The bank is supposed to honor that in the same way it'd honor a personal check. The only advantage to the preprinted checks is that it has your account number on it in magnetic ink, so it can be read more easily by machines.

The other methods suggested here are perhaps more conventional, but this technique is absolutely legal and effective.

  3. If your bank offers it you can pay electronically.

  4. Get cash using your ATM and buy a money order

  5. Money Order
