  1. You mean for scratch spin?  You can do a one foot spin, right?  Well, try this on the floor:

Stand up on the floor and do a one foot spin position with your free foot next to your knee.  Easy enough?  Now, don't change anything except to turn your free foot heel out so it's a little over your knee . . . now you're crossed!!  Slide down that heel along your skating leg . . . that's what you should feel on the ice.

Try that with whatever one foot entrance you already have.  Do a one foot spin like normal, then flip that heel out to cross and slide down the leg. Even though the timing and technique of an actual scratch spin entrance is a bit different, this should at least make the crossing seem less puzzling and give you the confidence to do it.

    Hope that helps!

  2. I can't either! It's so fricking annoying too! They really gotta get inventing.

  3. You must early in life.

That you only fail, when you fall down, and "don't get back up."

I am not a skater, but I have fallen down, more than once.<}:-})

  4. I'm assuming you're referring to a scratch spin.

I had exactly the same problem. Let's face it, scratch spins look pretty, but they can be a pain in the neck when you first start.

First, warm up by doing regular one foot spins, maybe even a sit spin. Try a back spin. When you do a "backward" spin,  you go the opposite direction, but you cross your legs, unlike a regular one foot spin. All spins must begin in center, where your leg is extended at an angle from the middle of your body. Stay there for at least two rotations, and then slowly close in. Don't try to cross too fast, or you might fall, go on your toe pick, or mke too few rotations. Balance is key.

A little bit before your leg is fully crossed, squeeze your arms to your chest and your foot to your knee. Sometimes it helps to think of squeezing way tighter than reasonable. If you don't squeeze tight enough, air will go through the holes by your arms and legs, and will consequently slow you down considerably.

Don't feel bad if you don't get it today. Sometimes my scratch spin acts up on my "bad days" because I'm more of a jumper. If you keep on doing the wrong thing, stop, skate around, jump a little, and then get back to it. You don't want bad habits to form.

Hope this helps and Good luck with your skating!

  5. you should keep on practice alot even if you don't get it the first time it's ok. on the floor you should try doing it there and even professional skaters are still learning that cause sometimes they wrap instead of crossing their legs(for both spins and jumps)no one is perfect!

  6. Ohh, that was hard for me, too.

ok, first, practice off-ice; going into your spin and crossing your legs. Also, streching will help get your legs straight. Try going into the spin slowly, so that you can really get the feel of doing it. Then, once again, go into the spin slowly and cross your legs. Do that a couple of times, and start going faster and faster

This helped me, I hope this helps you!!

  7. just wen ur spinning try 2 rilly think of crossing ur legs. also wen ur off the ice just stand in place and practice crossing ur legs in the way u want it during the spin(s).

    hope it helps!

  8. Start your spin really slow, and as you bring in your leg, you will speed up. Make sure that you bend your legs a bit, if you don't, you will not be able too.

    I hope this helps! :)

  9. I had the EXACT same problem! I just kept practicing it over and over until I got it right! It helps to practice the position off ice and get a better entry with stronger back crossovers and more speed. Don`t worry. I bet almost everyone (including me) has had problems with this spin!
