I've tried hooking up my second monitor in a dual-monitor configuration but for some reason I can't enable the second screen. I've gone to display properties, looked for an "enable second monitor" button ect ect. Went to my Nvidia video card software to see if I could enable it there, no luck, I found the category and there was an option to make it so I could get my second monitor to mimic what my primary monitor is showing, it worked but thats not what I need done. I want the display mode that allows me to scroll across screens. I went to windows troubleshooting and it asked if I had installed the hardware for it, it walked me through it but I couldn't find my monitor on the list of available things to install. So I ask you, why was I able to display the secondary monitor with the mimic feature but not able to activate the dual-monitor feature?

  1. Check Nvidia's website and make sure the drivers are up to date, that would be the only reason why you are not able to configure it properly if everything you are doing is correct.  While you are at the Nvidia site make sure that that card is capable of enabling a second monitor in your config, some older cards were not cabable of it.

  2. You need to go to the Nvidea website, and download/install the drivers for your card.  If you do that, and there is still no option for a second monitor in the display properties, then your card does not support it.  If your card is supposed to support it, then call Nvidea for help.

  3. ok right click desktop go to properties then to settings ok there should be a box that has a drop down arrow on it click on that and go to number 2 since you should have been on number 1 now the extend my desktop onto this monitor box should be clickable put a check mark in the box  and then hit apply your second monitor should pop up now with you able to scroll across the screen and drag windows into it
