  1. Inorder to find the stars, first the telescope  should be aligned with pole star or two other bright stars  as instructed in the operation manual.THen only it can find the rest of the stars from the software.

  2. First tell us what type of telescope you have. Then read the manual--- most computer goto scopes must be aligned on True North, the mount must be level and two objects must be centered in the eyepiece before the scope will "know" the sky.

A "push to" scope is a little bit different--- but still requires that you SETUP correctly.

Go to http://www.cloudynights.com  a great Astronomy website-- register for free--- and ask specific questions in the FORUM about your telescope. Thousands of astronomers belong to Cloudy Nights. Me included!

  3. My first suggestion is that you carefully read and study the telescope's alignment instructions.  If you don't actually align the telescope with the specified stars, for example, its computer tracking software won't know where the telescope is really pointing to, and when you want to go to a specific object, it won't know how to find it.

My second suggestion is that you check the power and signal cables to ensure that everything that should be connected together is really connected to what it should be, and that there is power to run everything.

(I'd check the second set of things first, based on my own experience with things like this ;-))
