I have a philips 42pfl5603d tv hooked up to my comcast HD receiver using HDMI as a connection. THAT'S DONE. next I have my Blu ray dvd hooked up to my rca rt2390 audio inputs via rca cables and composite cables going directly to the tv. THAT'S DONE. The problem is I want to play sound from the tv (when I'm watching cable tv) into the home theater system when i press the tv button on the home theater receiver....I have a digital audio cable coming from the tv directly to the receivers digital audio input, but I get no sound at all. My tv is new (still trying to get familiar with it) and I need to know if anybody can give me a hand. Thanks a bunch.

  1. I'm guessing you need to assign the digital input to "TV"  on the receiver. (Probably set to analog by default).

  2. Ahh the Digital Audio output on your TV set is for the TV's TUNER ONLY, not the INPUTS you connect to the TV set.....

The same applies to the OPTICAL outputs on TV sets....

However, I will let you know the manufacturers are now moving towards passing the audio from ANY INPUT on the TV set, over to the Digital/Optical outputs on the HIGH END TV sets this year...that means it'll hit all the models in a year or two.....

So your best bet in getting audio to your amp is to DIRECTLY CONNECT your DVD player and your CABLE Box's Optical output OR Digital Coax output OR your  HDMI outputs DIRECTLY INTO The AMP.....and then just send the TV either stereo from Both boxes, or find a secondary audio path to use for the TV set.....

TVs are not Dolby surround, so all they really need is Stereo RCA audio......
