Question:

I can't get the oven to heat up to the temperature I set it to. What's wrong and how do I fix this?

When I use my oven to bake pastries they don't bake properly. The oven gets hot, but not to the temperature that I set it to.

The oven worked fine before the fuse "shorted" during the winter. The repairman just flipped the fuse switch and got the oven back working again. But now it seems to not heat up as well as it should. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  1. You can have your oven calibrated.

  2. sounds like the thermostat to me, but as Typo said, it could also be a bad heating element. that's the first thing i would check, because it's easy to do. so many people waste money on new stoves, when repair is usually cheap and fairly easy to do.

  3. The thermostat needs to be calibrated.  There are different ways of doing this but many require removing the k**b and making an adjustment on the back of the k**b itself.  You could buy an inexpensive oven thermometer to put in your oven to see what temperature the oven is reaching compaired to what the k**b is set.

  4. You have an electric oven.

It has two elements in it that heat it up. Open the door and turn it on bake and 500 degrees and see if the bottom element gets red hot, then switch to broil and check the top. I am willing to bet that one of them does not.

If that is the case, unplug the stove and turn off the breakers, look at the base of the element that did not get hot and you will find one or two screws, remove them. Pull the element our and you will find 2 wires, remove them. At this point you can take the bad element totally out. The replace it. I am willing to bet you can get a new one for less than $50 easy.

I think that this will fix your problem.

If it does, the repair man owes you a refund. I

f not, pull the unit out of the wall and remove the back covers, there should be at least two. Look around and you will probably find a burned out wire that needs to be replaced. Just remember that the wires in a stove are very special and a regular wire will not work. It will get hot, the cover will melt, and them it can shock anyone who touches the stove.

  5. if it isnt heating to the correct temp then more than likely ur thermostat is out, depending on th type of oven u have it may be fixed cheaply aka a new thermostat which is wasy to do they come with directions or u may be better off buying a new stove :( good luck
