I can't get to sleep, any advice?

I usually go to sleep around 02:00 or 03:00. For the past week or so however I haven't been going to sleep until 05:00 or 06:00. I have TRIED to get to sleep. I tried to go to sleep at 02:30 earlier, 2 hours ago, but failed miserably and haven't been able to get to sleep so thought you might all be able to help. :-)

I think my "bad sleeping habit" I've fallen into started by waking up really late one day maybe and then just not being able to get to sleep until late, I can't remember but that would seem plausible.

Anyway, how can I get to sleep? If I don't get out of this habit soon I'm going to become angry and unsociable and turn into a recluse lmao :P

  1. Start by stop eating food past 7 -8, any later and you'll keep using up more calories and keep yourself up.

Also don't drink pop, coffee or eat anything with caffine or sugar past 7-8. that will definately keep you up.

Stress will keep you awake to so make sure you figure your what is stressing you and try to resolve as much as possible.

During the day, try staying active so you use up most of your energy instead of saving it for later

Sleeping pills are too dangerous, sleep is all about habit. wake up earlier and go to bed earlier.

  2. it looks like u got that sleeping disease. my dad got that problem wat he does is try to go to sleep at 9 and wake up at 6. u mite wanna go to a doctor dey got pills for that

  3. take some sleeping pills

  4. My suggestion is that you force yourself to get up early tomorrow and stay awake all day so you will be tired tomorrow night.

Then you could try all the age old remedies like a relaxing bath before bed, a glass of warm milk, and progressive relaxation exercises. You could even take a Tylenol PM.

Also, it helps me to have a fan running at night for the white noise. In fact, I can't sleep without one. Also, I read in bed and that makes me drowsy.

    Good luck!

  5. 1.) try counting backward from 200 in your mind

    2. take melatonin (a natural sleep-inducing hormone)

    3.) try benadryl

4.) use "white" noise (sound of ocean roaring, e.g.)

5.) only take prescription drugs (like Ambien) as a last resort

  6. The best thing for most people is to reset their body's natural clock. Just don't go to bed at all one night- and fight the urge to nap the next day! If you're having trouble staying alert, go to the gym to get endorphins running- they'll wake you up right away! Once you've stayed up till at least 10PM the next night, go to sleep because you deserve it. However, to keep your body from over sleeping and ruining any kind of schedule, set an alarm for a reasonable time (no later than 10AM I'd say) and have someone ready to wake you up if you ignore the alarm. Keep up with the sleep schedule for the next night or two, and you should be back to normal!

EDIT: As for your orange juice question, I would cut off your OJ intake at about 7. Even though it's juice, it's full of natural sugar which can keep you up. If you must (because it sounds like you love your OJ, and who doesn't?!), have a final glass (a small one) just before bed.

EDIT AGAIN: Another thing I just thought of. The last thing you do before bed should NOT be the computer. Something about the screen wakes up your brain and can keep you awake for at least an hour. I suggest turning off the computer at least an hour before bed. Spend that hour reading, just relaxing, or even watching TV (for some reason TV screens are okay). I forgot where I read that, but I applied that rule to my sleep schedule, and it made a big difference! I sleep much better now... I LOVE sleep lol.
