I just started to learn to snowboard. When I get my bindings strapped in and try to get up while facing downhill, I can't do it. It sounds simple but I just cant do it. I always have to flip over and get up on my toeside. Any tips? Thanks!!!

  1. Start on your knees sitting on the board facing downhill (so the board will be behind you under your butt) with your toeside edge in the snow.  Lean back and place a hand on the snow for balance and stand up on the toe edge.  As you approach completely standing up shift your balance onto your heel edge and continue on your way.

  2. Most of these answers won't work when you get on steeper terrain. Even on shallow terrain, you should get up with your board in front of you so you get good at it. Please note that the steeper the hill, the easier it is to do on the heel side. Everybody has a little trouble doing this on the flat. Do this:

    1. Dig in your heel edge into the snow as hard as you can

    2. Reach back with one hand directly behind you, press down

    3. Twist your upper body toward the arm you are using

    4. As you are pushing yourself up, keep all the pressure on the heels

    5. Keep pushing your body over the board until you are actually falling forward (down the hill) a little and then tilt the board forward to start sliding down the hill - the motion and the angle of your board will get you in balance

    Good Luck

  3. Well, try not to be parallel to the mountain. Be perpendicular, meaning dont have the tips of the snowboard like facing down and up the mountain. And, like its basically the same thing as flipping over and going toeside. Try getting up, and make turns like you normally do

good luck, and hope this helps!

  4. try diggin ya board into the snow a bit more so it dosnt move

    hope this helps

  5. sit like the guy at this link: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

Then gt your heel edge way in there andpush your toes down while using your hands to get squatting. Then unbend your knees and you're in business!

  6. What you need to do is...

First make sure you board is faced directly ACROSS the foreline (down hill angle) of the slope so it doesn't go sliding off down the hill as you start to stand up.

Then grab the edge of your board between your toes while you're sitting down. Now roll your self forward towards your toes STILL IN THE SITTING POSITION, you'll get to a point where you've rolled so far forward that you are nearly squashing your fingers and the board is now pretty much flat on the snow- STILL IN THAT SITTING POSITION. Once your board is as flat as you can get it THEN and only then do you release your hand and start to stand up. Your problem might be that you are trying standing up tall right from the start. It's all about staying low till you get your balance. Hope this helps. Have fun out there!!
