I want to be a fixed wing pilot for one of the services. I don't want to fly the big fighters or anything of that nature, but i want to fly the "HEAVIES". Like KC-130's , C-5's ,Ac-130, the big ones! I am not a afraid of just normal flying, like in the passenger jets and stuff. I did some research and i found out that the air force and navy pilot training

require all pilots to learn aerobatics in during there intro into military flying. Like i said i have no problem with basic flying , but aerobatics scare me because people say they are like roller coasters! I can't reall go on roller coasters because i have a major fear of them. I don't like the feeling of going on a big drop, or falling. What i want to know is if anyone has gone through this same problem i am going through. I want to know if i could pass the air force or navy pilot training? I know i am capable of everything else but aerobatics are what im worried about. Could i handle the aerobatics? Does anyone know how the air force or navy pilot training goes? How do aerobatics feel compared to a coaster? How do the flight instructors introduce you to aerobatics?

THanks...

  1. Scared of roller coasters?!?!?  How the heck will you deal with combat?  Stick to video games.

  2. uhhhh i dont know man cause i would think tht feels the same as roller coasters but my advice is to just try it and if it doesnt work out just try something else =]

  3. sounds like your in over your head

  4. Please, if the pilot of my airplane stood up on roller coasters, I'd be one terrified passenger.  Someone made a good point about not having control on a roller coaster, but you have control of the airplane.  It's a whole different feeling when you are in control.  They will teach you all the techniques you will need to know to be able to fly.  Don't be afraid to take that step and try it.

  5. let  me put it to you like this, the only way to learn how to swim is to jump in the water.

  6. Aerobatics are WAY more intense than rollercoasters. WHen you are on a stunt plane or fighter, you pull MANY more Gs than you do on even the most intense rollercoasters. If you are just going to be flying the big cargo jets or gunships, then maybe it would just be worth putting up witht eh training.

  7. No.  Sorry.

You have to be able to handle big G turns, twists and drops.  You probably could handle "regular" flight, but what about evasive maneuvers and possible crashes.  Even civilian plans crash.  Even supply planes are shot at.  Think about it: Why attack the soldiers individually on the ground when you can take out the whole carrier?  The military needs pilots that can fly milk runs and execute evasive maneuvers as well as crash landings.

Remember, even the most basic, boring flight path can be attacked.

The military needs all their pilots to be able to handle any situation presented.  I know that because the military will pay for flight school it is tempting to sign up with them, BUT you have to go through all the extensive tests.  My brother in law doesn't even go near planes and yet he had to go through a test that based on your description, you would never pass.  Could you be strapped into something similar to a roller coaster seat, dropped from a great height into a deep swimming pool, then be coherent enough to break your set belt, remember up from down and swim to the surface?  My brother in law thought it was easy, then he nearly dies and he wasn't even up for pilot training...

Sorry, but military pilots are put through he!! You have to be able to take it.

  8. hey in a roller coaster you don't have control. Everyone is afraid of that, but in this case you have control! So don't stress

  9. you might be able to... im not sure i think you recive the same amount of G's on a fighter jet as in a few roller coasters...

  10. Grow a pair and strap yourself on a rollercoaster. If you can do that, you will have the confidence you need for the training.

But one significant differance about roller coasters and piloting a plane, is when you are the pilot you have control.

  11. Just give it a go, but if your going to be flying the cargo planes then you wont be doing heaps of aerobatics. I'm sure you will love it. I dont particularly like rollercoasters but i love doing aerobatics in a plane and pulling upto 3 or 4 Gs its awesome! The first time I did aerobatics I was pretty scared but after I did it I was glad I did. Just go for it! I mean what have you got to loose? Good Luck!! I'm sure you will make a great pilot!

  12. you will have no problem. i also hate rollar coasters but feel comfortable flying. not like a roller coaster at all. you have fear problems to consider. it is purely psychological. very few have some sort of inner ear problem that prevents them from succeeding. you should save up and take some flying lessons out at you local airport, like i did. been there, done that.

  13. sorry, if you can't handle roller coasters, i don't want you flying my planes; uncle sam probably doesn't either.  good pilots stand up in roller coasters.

  14. My guess is no...but keep dreamin big!

  15. NO
