I can't hear anything from my computer speakers?

Recently my computer's hard disk went bad. I had to replace it and install a new version of Windows XP. But before any of that happen my laptop speaks (built in speakers) were working perfect. Now that i installed the new Windows the speakers stopped working. I can not hear a sound when watching a video on youtube or music. I checked if they were on mute but is not. Every time that go to Volume control it says that there are no active mixer device available.

It doesn't recognize your soundcard.  I had that happen on a laptop.  it was epic fail.  get a soundcard or reinstall im not exactly sure what to do but i know why they don't work.
