I can't install windows service pack 2, what do I do?

the error message says..."unable to read from or write to data base"...

  1. try this

    1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

    2. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each line:

    net stop cryptsvc

    del /q %systemroot%\system32\catroot2\Edb*.log

    del /q %systemroot%\security\Edb*.log

    net start cryptsvc

    now run the updater again to try to install the SP
