Question:

I can't keep my room clean?

So my mom yelled at me today because once again my room is like a humungous mess.

I have to clean it, does anyone have any tips?

My bed is a mess, my closet is a complete disaster, the dresser has a bunch of random stuff in it, I have tons of clothes I've outgrown, bunches of stuff is dusty, there are dirty and clean clothes and socks thrown everywhere...

I hate my room because it's like this.

What are some tips to clean it and keep it looking clean and fresh?

It smells kind of gross, too, but my mom doesn't "believe" in febreeze or anything like that.

Okay thanks!

My mum is always telling me 2 tidy my room 2... This is what I did.

Get into the habit of making your bed before you leave for the day. A messy bed can make an otherwise clean room look messy. This small step can inspire you to keep your room neat throughout the day.

    Get an Ipod or a stereo and BLAST music while you clean (as long as it won't bother others}

Keep food out of your room. As tempting as it is to bring snacks in your room, all of those dirty dishes and wrappers can mess up a room fast. If you absolutely must eat food in your room, bring dishes back to the kitchen and throw all trash in the garbage when you are done.

Replace things you use. If you take something out, put it back. This may seem like a simple rule but if you follow it, you will never have to worry about your room being a disaster ever again. If you don't have time, at least make a deal with yourself that you will make sure everything is picked up before you go to bed.

Maintain. Once a week, do a simple maintenance cleaning. Dust off your desk, bookshelves, and other dusty surfaces. Vacuum and sweep your floor. Wash your sheets.

Remember, lighting can make a room look even cleaner. Buy a few lamps, but don't overdo it. 1 floor lamp and 2 desk lamps are plenty, and make sure your bulb gives off a soft, yellow light.

Before you go to bed take aside a few minutes to pick up any dirty clothing or wrappers and make sure your room at least looks decent before you settle into bed.

Keep a picture of your former messy room somewhere nearby. When you are tempted to leave things out of place or be messy, take a look at the picture to remind you of what will happen if you don't put in an effort.

Now that its Summer, take 1 full day (Or 2 days) to take out all your OLD clothes and put them in a bag. Give them to your local charity shop. Pull out your bed and vacuum there. Vacuum everywhere. Take out any old games/useless stuff that you don't use or don't need.

Everyday, say before you go to bed, pick up 10 things off the floor. Empty out all the rubbish.

Do not say you'll do it later. You know you won't.

    1 more thing,

    Pick up as you go!

  2. Yikes!  That does sound messy.  First of all, get a bag and put the clothes in it that you can't wear anymore.  Shoes too.  Fold up your socks and put them in the drawer.  Go through your drawers and get rid of junk you don't use.  Rule is....if you haven't used it in 6 months, get rid of it.  Go through the stuff on top of your dresser too, and either put it away or toss that stuff out too.  Once you get that taken care of, you can dust off the dresser and anything else that needs dusting and then make your bed.  Look around and see how nice everything looks.  Once you have it clean, and you get into the habit of putting things away, your room will always be clean, and won't take but a couple of minutes a day to keep it that way.  Just think....your mom couldn't yell at you anymore!  lol  Once you clean everything up, your room should smell better too, so don't fret about the Febreeze.   If you put your mind to getting your room cleaned, it really shouldn't take you that long.  It just looks like it will take a long time.  Go ahead, time yourself and you'll be amazed.  Good luck and let us know how long it took and how nice it looks.

I used the above with my daughter, and she loves this program more than I do...

It will get you in a routine that will help you keep your room clean.

    Good luck!

  4. You need a hamper/laundry basket, and trash bags/boxes, some furniture polish and window/mirror cleaner and paper towels.

Start with whats visible first, anything in your floor or on top of your furniture by making four piles, one pile to keep, one to wash, one to throw away, and one to donate. As some space

clears then you can tackle your dresser and then move to the closet until you have everything in those four piles. Take your

dirty laundry to wash, throw out the bag of trash, and take the box to donate to the garage or trunk of your moms car to be donated, lastly put away and organize the things you are keeping, fold/hang clothes, put like items in your drawers.

Clean and dust your furniture, windows, and mirror or pictures, and accessories. sweep or vacuum your floor and spray some air freshner, wash your bedding too.

Ask your mom to get you some nice baskets or crates for storage, a book/wall shelf for books and other decorative items, a small trash can.

The key to keeping your room clean is always putting things in there place- dirty laundry in the hamper after you've changed, clean clothes folded or hung in there proper place, books on the book shelf, dishes in the sink, trash thrown away and just a good weekly dusting and vacuuming.

I know this seems like a lot but, if you just start with one side of your room today and maybe your dresser tomorrow and the weekend for your closet, once you start and see the difference you will start to feel better.

  5. Taking the time to put things away when you are finished with them is more than half the battle.  We often get in the habit of telling ourselves we'll do it later and next thing you know you have a mountain of mess.  First of all, sort through your belongings and get rid of things you don't wear, use, or love.  Organize what's left (have one drawer for sox and underwear, all shoe go on a shoerack, makeup going in a wicker basket, laundry in a hamper, etc.)  Make the bed when you get up and before you leave your room for the day, look around to see if anything looks unattractive or messy.  Once every week (or two at the most)  dust and vac.  Make a habit of doing these things and your room will always look and feel good and you'll have a much happier mom.  By the way, I'm sure she wouldn't object to some potpourri.

  6. First problem is you have more stuff than you can handle.

Get some garbage bags & sort out stuff you don't need.

    There are Goodwill & Salvation Army & St.Vincent de Paul;-}

they all have second-hand stores. Find one near your house.

Some areas they will even pick up if you have enough stuff.

Then get some storage bins from the Dollar General cheap.

Use them to store any clothes that are out of season.

It's a good idea to wash anything before you store it away.

Use fabric softener or dryer sheets, it's the same as Febreze.

Also buy some scented oil, candles or incense for your room.

Places like Home Depot have closet organizers, study them.

You don't have to buy the expensive ones, use the ideas.

You can get milk crates & MDF shelving pretty cheap.

Get a big laundry hamper to store your used clothes.

Organize your dresser drawers: socks, underwear, etc.

Be patient with yourself;-} do a section at a time.

  7. sounds like you don't like to cean your room,so i would either one make my lil brother/sister do it or get a friend to do it,       ( you would have to trick them into doing it) then take the credit
