I'm supposed to memorize some songs for violin. There's really short like two lines, but I can never memorize them. My teacher always has to give me the first couple notes, then I can figure most of it out, but I always mess up at the end. Is the any way I can memorize my songs easily?

  1. Get a recording of the tune(s) -- either a CD or internet download, or just record your teacher playing the tune repeated several times over.  Listen to the recording over and over, sing along with it (if there are no words just sing "la la la" or whatever) over and over.  When you can sing or hum or whistle the tune on your own without referring back to the recording, you know you've got it memorized, and then playing it is just a matter of finding the notes on your fiddle and figuring out the bowing.

  2. just keep going over the songs till you know them.

  3. What I use to do when I use to play the violin, would look at the notes and then play it, then I would try to think of something that would remind me of that note.  Then I would keep doing that with each note, and when I thought of the image then I think of the note.

  4. practice practice practice

the more you do it, the more you will figure it out.

  5. U should listen to a recording of the song, that helps me.  The other thing is just repetition, play over and over.  I usually try to memorize not the notes, but just where to put the fingers, if that makes sense.  Eventually, the finger muscles will just do it without really thinking about it.
