so I am having a hard time with gas, groceries, bills... money in general. I have been working really hard to keep my credit up, but since my daughter was born, I only work part time and money is EXTREMELY tight. So ican't pay my minimum payment and if i don't, they are just gonna tack on finance charges and late charges making my minimum for next month even moreso out of reach. If I call them and ask for "help" are they gona laugh at me or are they willing to work with customers. I haven't charged anything on the card for probally a year or so, just trying to pay it off.

Thanks!

  1. It depends on the company and the person you get.

If you've been a good customer and haven't paid late before, and since you haven't been charging on the card, there's a good chance that they will do everything in order to help you.

Do you have other debt outside of the credit card you're talking about?  If you do, you might want to try a non-profit debt consolidation group before going to an individual credit card company.

Make sure it's not a for-profit company and make sure it's not a settlement company.  After you completed the program you'll be out of debt and and indication that you were on the program is erased from your credit file.

If you just have the one credit card, call up the company and explain the situation.  They may have a program to help you get back on your feet.  Because in reality, they want to get their money back, so they don't want you to default.

Good luck with your situation.  It sounds like you really want to make it right!

  2. Depending on the credit card company, they may work with you if your financial problem will be resolved in a short period.

A better idea would be to check Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Check here for one near you:  http://www.nfcc.org/.  These are legit, non-profit credit counseling companies.  They can look at your finances and advise you how to proceed.

They also have a debt management program available if you qualify.  They negotiate the interest rates down and work out payment arrangements.

  3. I take it that the father of your child has wandered off. You could try to get something out of him.

Tell the card company your sad case. If they are no help then you can have yourself declared bankrupt. That means they would only get a proportion of what you owe. I think that you will find they prefer to make an arrangement and be sure of getting their money.

Whatever you do, do NOT take out a loan. You will end up in even deeper trouble.

      Best wishes.

    repair and/or build your credit

most credit card companies will work .with you. if not sooner they will later.

if eveything else fails. Your credit will be bad for a while, you wont be able to get credit and then you can do a debt settlement or pay for delete with collection company.   Look into wage earner plan or other government grant programs. It depends if you are a single mother, married, minority or under poverty level:you would be surprized at what the government thinks of as poverty in some states.

good luck, and remember things can always be fixed with time. congrats on the baby, just had a daughter in december,
