I live in a city that doesn't offer recycling. I can' even get other companies to pick up my recycling because our city and the company that they have gone with have treatened to sue them if they come within the city limits. They won't even let me bring my garbage and recycling to their facility for drop off service and the city won't let me cancel my services or go with another company. I don't know what to do.

  1. Become pro-active. Get a petition going to have the town/city change their recycling policies. Talk to your neighbors, and friends, ask them to talk to theirs. Talk to the mayor, councilmen/women. Point out to them that it is your money they are spending to haul these materials to landfills. That it is your tax dollars that pay the tipping fees to then dump the materials in the landfills. That paper, plastics, glass, metals are recyclable which is better for the environment and all of us.

Take this also to your county and state representatives. Tell them that this is a matter that must be addressed.

Present your petitions to local, county and state officials. Remind them that it is their obligation to do what is best for their constituents, to listen to and act upon their needs and concerns.

You can also either join or form a Freecycle group in your area (http://www.freecycle.org/).  This is an organization that promotes the recycling of good usable household goods, appliances, furniture, clothing, tools, building materials, plants, toys, etc.

  2. you should start a petition or talk to the head of the town (mayor/village president) to try to get recycling in your town. its great tht youre concerned about the planet!

  3. Be a pioneer...start doing your own recycling without a companies help. Re-use things that you buy, shop at thrift stores, donate your old clothing to charities etc. Just because there's no recycling company it doesn't mean that you have to be wasteful.

  4. WOW I can't believe you are in that situation. I have no experience on American law but you should be able to fight this.

  5. I would call the alderman for your area.  Recycling has been around for many years and there really is no excuss for them not to have a program.

Keep on them....you can make a difference with this!!

  6. If you live in Peoria...there is actually a recycling drop off spot behind the Sterling Bazaar Shopping Center (behind the Kroger). This shopping center is located at the corner of Sterling and Forrest Hill. You can drop newspaper, glass, and aluminum cans in the bins back there. But, I'd advise that you go when it's light out...and with someone. It's not a bad part of town, but you're just kinda secluded back there.

    Hope this helps!

  7. you have a few options...

you may drive to the nearest recycling center

or you may just choose to ignore it...

however you may also be pro active and offer recycling service to your neighbors by offering to drive to the recycling center and take their recyclables.

  8. contact these guys, they can help you or point you in the right direction.
