I have a list of repairs I need to make to my car that I could do myself for $150 in parts tops, but I can't do it at the apartment complex I'm at. I just moved here so I don't know anyone that could lend me their garage for a few hours, and the estimate from the shop is $700. Any ideas on a legal way to repair my car somewhere. FYI, It's all tire & brake work....no fluids.

  1. find one of those storage rental places some times the have one big enough for a car you might have to rent it for the month though  but even so you will still save money

  2. I know the frustration, i've been there. Yup, shops will drain your bank. It's good you know how to repair your car. Anyway, there's no other option but to keep on looking for friends who have a garage. Or look for a private, uninhabited lot and ask permission from the owner. That's what I did. Goodluck!

  3. Why don't you try a random parking lot? Around where i live, there's a quite a few very large parking lots, and i see people just hanging out or car clubs doing meet ups in them all the time. I'm sure if you find a large parking lot you could do it there, though i'm not sure if your necessarily allowed to do that. Just a suggestion though, cause i dunno if you have anything like that where you live. Whatever you do, just don't leave stuff behind, take all the garbage with you.

  4. I know your problem ask the auto parts store that you buy the parts from if you can fix it in their parking lot or pull around back to the loading docks. The Auto Zone that I go to allows me to fix minor problems back by the loading docks. They have even loaned me some of the specialty  tools to fix the problem.

  5. Just find the busiest highway and do the work there. People are normally going too fast, or too busy to care as to what you are doing on the side of the road covered in $hit.

Just jack it up and start working, don't use stands.. as stands are for pu$$ies!

  6. Even with brakes you run into environmental issues due to the presence of asbestos in most shoes. Your best bet is to take it to an old road somewhere and knock out the repairs. DONT LEAVE YOUR JUNK BEHIND take the old parts to a parts place and give them to them. They dispose oil they should dispose parts too. Dont know where an old road is? Google maps my friend. Good luck and remember, clean up after yourself and leave it as you found it.
