I can't ride a bike, but I really want to go?

I have a major problem that I really need some help on.

My best friend, her mom, dad, her 2 brothers are all going on a vacation in 6 weeks. As a family, they are into action holidays. They'll be going hiking, bike riding and walking in the country. Her mom has asked me whether I'd like to come with them as I'm really close with the whole family and I've been on vacations with them before. My mom and her mom have discussed it and they've agreed to let me go. I REALLY want to go. :)

The problem is, I can't ride a bike. Stupid as it sounds for a 16 year old, but I can't ride. My dad tried teaching me when I was a kid but I never could master it and I didn't want to learn because I broke my arm trying, so I was afraid. Looking back, I should have learned, but I didn't. I know for sure that on this vacation we will be riding bikes. I'm really scared to learn, but I want to go. What should I do? Can I learn in this time frame? Should I tell her? Help, please. I'm so embarrassed.

  1. you can learn riding a bike in a day.. and you can use another two days to practice maneuvering efficiently.

you only need a good bike, courage, and encouragement.

  2. tell your friend and maybe she can help you learn befor you go on the trip.

    hope this helps!!

  3. My mom is 45 and can't ride a bike. It's ok though. Just tell her. They will teach you. I taught my friends cousin in 10 minutes. Don't be embarrassed. Trust me six weeks is a long enough time frame. It's easier to teach teens to ride bikes to because you have a lot more balance. Just make sure you wear a helmet! And if you're scared pads too.

  4. You could ride a tricycle! you could still kinda follow them and if they're way far ahead then your friend will come back and you guys can laugh together cuz it's funny that you're riding a tricycle!!!

  5. It doesn't take 6 weeks to learn to ride a bike. If you don't own one, maybe you could borrow one off somebody, even your friend. If you're too embarassed to admit that you can't ride a bike, you could just say that you haven't been on one in a whileso you might be a little rusty and want to polish up before the holiday.

  6. Don't be embarrassed about things you can't do - I'm 20 and I can't swim. Just talk to your friend and her family and see what they think. Maybe you and your friend could do something else on the day the others go biking, or maybe they won't mind helping you learn.

  7. no worries....don't be afraid...just learn to ride the bike and go on vacation....all you have to do is learn how to ride....and yes you can do it in 6 weeks, probably six days

  8. Of course you can ride a bike in that time frame! In year 6 we went on a camping trip for a week and we were going for a bike ride, at the time i couldn't ride and the last time i'd ridden a bike was with stabilizers! Anyway i learnt to ride in 3 days i think! the first time i fell off, the second time i stayed on for a bit, third time i stayed on for a bit longer and the last time i tried i stayed on for like 1 hour!

It isn't going to happen in a few hours, it'll take a few days but, it won't take 6 weeks!

  9. If you think they are going to do some biking, it would be only fair to tell them that you don't know how to ride before you go.

You don't want to embarrass yourself or your friend on their vacation.

If you can't ride, they are going to find out anyway, so why not be honest about it?

  10. just tell her

  11. Interesting.  I'm curious, do you have other balance problems?  Because riding a bike is mostly that - keeping your balance.  But anyhoo, that's not important.

Six weeks should be enough to learn how to basically ride a bike, but I would tell your bf's and her mom that you don't know how to ride a bike really well so that you are not put into a bad situation where you get scared.  Try learning with someone very patient and understanding. It will give you the courage to tackle your fears.

Good luck!  Overcoming fears is tough and it's great that you're motivated to learn how to ride a bike!!

  12. at this age you prolly can learn real quick, just everyday before the vacation practice - once you get it it'll be okay. Maybe ask for some help from your bestie.

  13. You can definetly try why dont you get your friend to help you , kinda like a project ?

Or if you cant learn in time can you try a scooter ? Like a mini scooter ?

Good luck & have fun on holiday
