Question:

I can't roll?

I went to volleyball camp today and the coach was teaching us how to roll, I just can't seem to do it! I tuck my legs in and use my hand to get up and try to get the momentum to just turn but i still can't do it, and I've got bruises everywhere, probably gonna do it again tomorrow. =/

I need help on the shoulder roll and barrel roll. I'm also stuck on when I get the ball and have to dive I push my arms back and my mind is not thinking fast enough about what I need to do when I roll.

Also learning rolling will be helpful since I'm going into 9th grade.

  1. it takes a while.

it looked fun to me, so whenever i had time, i'd do a few rolls on my carpet

and now, since i've been switched to a libero, it's come in handy

so just do it slowly on carpet. then practice running, diving then rolling on carpet, u'll get it. many people cant roll anyhow

in the game, once you've become used to a roll, you will start automatically rolling in the game

  2. Just remember that you would have to roll from shoulder to shoulder.

If you dive with your right hand hitting the ball, then you land with right elbow then right shoulder, roll on your back to your left shoulder before pushing your palms over your shoulders and go "over/up".

  3. First of all, STAY LOW!!!  This helps a lot because you will get to the ball faster.  Be sure to dive out with both hands.  You are just going to have to fall- you will get used to that.  DO NOT FALL TO YOUR KNEES!  This will slow you down.  Fall directly to your side!  Then, your momentum will help you roll over- just pull your legs over and get up low.  Be sure to get up in a low position so you are ready for the next one!  :D

  4. practice summersaults (however you spell it) and get use to being on the ground you will get better if you practice the right tecnique

  5. ok. so the ball is falling infront of you.  you stick you arm our and if it is to the right, tuck your right knee in (you need to START LOW! by the way) and its hard to describe this in words but slide on your side to get the ball. if you are barrel rolling do just like your rolling down a hill and roll to your side and bring your right leg around plant in on the ground and stand back up. if you are shoulder rolling, after you tuck your right knee in you act like your doing a summersault at a slant backwards and if i am visualising this right you bring your left leg over first then the right causing you to stand. im sorry if this is to confusing. what really helps is just watch other people and practice doing it very slowly. then build up. ask the coaches at the camp and i'm sure they would love to help
