I have removed yahoo from my computer completely and re installed it and that did not fix the problem...

the blacked out image suggests its not yahoo, but rather browser or files, try emptying cache and cookies, but if you deleted some yahoo program like messenger, you may have deleted files saved within folders of program containing these missing files, try also updating plugins for browser like java and flash player, other possibility is that drivers for video are corrupt, but not if other images are showing up ok,

Sounds like a file is missing or corrupt.  To solve this simply uninstall yahoo messenger in your add/remove programs from your control panel.  Restart your computer, go to yahoo.com and re-download messenger & reinstall.  This will fix any missing and/or corrupt file issues.
