I'm in 6th grade, and like 5.6 or something like that. I usually always go in the back of the class. My problem is since I started school (yesterday), I can't see the board or anything from the back.

My question is- If I do need glasses can I use contacts instead..?

  1. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get contacts- but while your waiting on them get to the front and get your work done. lol

  2. It sounds like you have myopia or nearsightedness.

Get glasses but only use them when you really need to like when looking at the blackboard in class if you can manage without them comfortably most of the time. Why don't you tell your parents or teachers to move you to the front if you have trouble seeing the board- I'm sure they would understand your situation.

As for the going blind thing, that only happens when you use distance glasses/contacts for near work (eg, reading, computer) as it causes eyestrain which causes your eyes to become worse and more dependent on glasses/contacts- thats why you should only use glasses when you want to see distance objects clearly and NEVER for near work.

For more information you and your parents should have a look at the following websites and any associated links.

  3. Yes you can use contacts instead. In the mean time, just get moved up to the front. As for going blind, slight vision problems such as yours are common in kids your age.
