I used to sleep on my right side but now I couldn't, It's just uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep on right sleep anymore. Now I started like to sleep on the left side but I don't know if it's will harm the unborn baby? and is it safe if I laid my back flat while sleep?

  1. yes, ive always read that its best to sleep on your left side too

  2. Actually, it is recommended to sleep on your left side... Right side is ok.. But the left side is the best!!!!

  3. Left side is better anyways! The blood flow to the uterus is maximized when lying on your left side!

ETA ~ As for sleeping on your back, its recommended that you dont, your vena cava runs under your uterus, and the weight of the baby can place pressure on the artery, causing less oxygen to the uterus!

  4. Actually, sleeping on your left side is recommended over your right side.  Also, I've heard conflicting things from doctors about sleeping on your back.  Nurses have said it's bad and you should be propped up a little, just never FLAT on your back.  So, see if you can sleep with a pillow under you or something.  I have to have about 4 pillows under my back to my head to prop myself up, otherwise I just can't sleep.

  5. You're supposed to sleep on your left side, but not your back.

  6. research has shown that sleeping on your left side improves oxygen flow to your baby so sleeping of your left side is definitely ok!! congrats on baby : )

  7. Left is best, but should lay on your back as little as possible after 4/5mo along.  You probably won't want to lay on your back anyway as it's uncomfortable.

  8. Actually, supposedly sleeping on your left side is the safest for the baby, so you shouldn't worry about that!

If you are going to sleep on your back, my ob suggested putting a small pillow under your right side, to keep your weight (and the baby's weight) off of the artery sending blood to the baby.

    :)

    Hope that helps!

  9. Left side is definitely the best side to sleep on.  =)

  10. the left side is actually suggested by doctors... it is better for blood flow and digestion...and it is best if you put a pillow between your knees to help your back stay straight... but, you should sleep however is comfy...

  11. where do u get your info???? it's always been the left side is the best.......ALWAYS

  12. you should be sleeping on your left side more than any other side.  this is because the blood flow to the baby can be slowed down by sleeping on your right side due to the babies weight on the inferior vena cava.

  13. No its not safe to sleep on your back...the best side to sleep on is your left side anyways.  Sleeping flat on your back...can cut off the blood supply.

  14. You're supposed to be sleeping on your left side
