Question:

I can't stop breaking my glasses?

I've gone through so many pairs of glasses, it's rather strange really. But the problem is, that I habitually bend the frame and adjust the glasses for a tighter fit despite my head already being quite wide. This "adjustment" basically means that I go through pairs of glasses quite quickly (usually in a few months). I don't know if I'm genuinely uncomfortable with the glasses or just do it out of habit. I want a tight fit so the glasses don't slip around my face, but at the same time, this strains my glasses since I have a wide face.

What should I do? I would prefer staying away from contacts.

  1. Look, this is a habit you will have to learn to control and break.

If your glasses need adjustment, DO NOT do it yourself - take them to your optometrist who will be able to do it correctly.

Good luck with breaking the habit.

  2. Try to resist the temptation to bend them yourself. There are special tools that assist opticians in making adjustments to the frame. Find yourself a good optician who knows how to adjust the frame to your head size or one that can advise you on the best style to fit your "wide" head.  Also, stay away from cheaper frames, they will not last for you. Consider a good stainless steel frame, they are light and will tend to hold the shape better.(titanium is also light, but doesn't seem to have the same tensile strength)  It will also be corrosive resistant, especially if the frame is constantly touching your face. I would also recommend that you inquire about any warranty on your current glasses, you should hopefully be getting them fixed or replaced at no cost for at least a year.

  3. I saw an ezine about adjusting your glasses at www.stingyspecs.com.au

maybe some pro tips can help you.  Also, you might want to get cheap glasses like the ones on that website ($29 frames) if you break them often.  You should also check the frame measurements- they have an ezine on this too, to make sure that the frames you choose fit your face.

  4. Keep your hands off the glasses. I think this  is part habit.  Take your glasses to the clinic you got them from and have them adjust them. Some times I can't keep my hands off mine and I have to make myself leave them alone. Restrain your self from doing this and let a professional take care of them. Good luck
