I can't use Mail with a hotmail account. Help?

I have a Macintosh and I would love to use the mail application, but I cannot get it to work with my hotmail address. I don't want to pay for the .mac address. I've been told it can be done, but do not know what I'm doing wrong.

tRY SETTING UP A pop3 e-mail account with the amc mail ot just by entourage hich is like outlook but for mac.

Instead of using the .mac preference when setting up a new account, use the POP account setting, and set hotmail.com as your incoming mail server, as well as your user information.  This ought to do the trick!
