I can't wait to get a dog but...?

Question

I've just been told by my parents that I can get a dog when my two guinea pigs wo are now 2 go over the rainbow bridge (die). The problem is, the only thing that i've ever wanted is a dog! I seem to be unable to wait for that time. Am I incredibley evil to say such a thing? Please dont be harsh I'm only 13.

i have wanted a husky since i was about 7, ten years later i still dont have one :( theres a lot of time and effort goes into getting a dog, and its not something that should be taken lightly. will your parents look after it when you are at school all day? maybe they dont want that responsiblity, maybe they want you to wait until you are a little older.

patience is a virtue, show your parents you are mature by being able to wait for the things you want.

that's so not mean!have u tried 2 ask your friends whether they want your guineas?if not,you should try it!or you can give them 2 your teacher as a school pet!

You could give them away or sell them. I don't see a way to argue your way through. I know how you feel! When I want something... I really want it!

lol no ur not wen u want something some people seem to want it now now now u must be patient mayb ther stallin u hopin u change ur mind dogs are not as easy to mind as u think,they hav to be walked fed trained all that sort of thing ther great to hav around and good company too but they sure are a handful....

Nope, you're not evil.  Guinea pigs are Ok but they don't compare to a dog.  I had two gerbils and they both died in the last couple of days, they were very old, but I was hardly sad at all, I thought it was a shame but it wasn't really a biggy.  However, a couple of weeks earlier, one of my mum's cats died and I cried for about two days.  You can't compare these small rodents to a real pet like a dog or a cat.  They're cute but you can't get that attached to them

It's really hard to wait for something that you want so much--especially when you are 13!  I don't really see how the guinea pigs and the dog are related, but I can't think of a good argument for your parents to let you have both, either.  Try to be patient.  It's not evil as long as you aren't planning to bump off the poor pigs!

no way are you evil. you were just excited about getting a dog, and its not like you made your ginea pigs pass away. its okay to want things. just be patient.

you kinda should look at your current responsibilities. the gps are two already, you've waited that long right?? another half a year to a year will give you a lot of time to research dogs, choose what kind you want, get what you need and be prepared. if you absolutely can not wait another couple of months, try calling a shelter and see if they'll take them. oh, and ur not evil for being anxious, ur just being 13.

Doesnt matter what age you are, you should not be wishing your guinea pigs dead. I have a guinea pig and he is a lovely pet, he is well over four years now so you may have a while to wait. You obviously know you are thinking the wrong thing if you are telling us not to be hard on you. I would look for someone else to mind these guinea pigs, however I would not immediately rush into getting a dog, they are a lot of work and can live for many years so bear this in mind.

oooooooooooh thts a long wait my gp just passed away and she was 8 1/2, i had her since i was 7 1/2 andd now i am 15

Soo thts a long wait, be very resposible and show good care of them to try and persuade your parents to get you a dog, and no its not an evil thing to say, i got my dog about a year ater i got my gp's.
