Question:

I can't work my Gamecube controller with my Wii?

So I just bought a wireless controller from Game Stop, and I couldn't get it to play Gamecube games so I brought it back and got a different kind. However, I STILL can't get it to work, so I figured it's probably my system or I'm doing something wrong. The controller is lighting up, as well as the receiver, but when I can't to the title screen of any game I try (Metroid Prime, Tales of Symphonia, Animal Crossing), the Gamecube controller does nothing once I get to the title screen.

On Tales of Symponia, it allowed me to use the Gamecube controller when I was asked whether or not I wanted to play without a memory card, but when it got to the title screen, it didn't do anything. Also, it's a Wavebird controller.

If you had any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!

  1. Make sure you connected it in the right slot.

The GC controller ports are backwards than what they were on the GameCube, the Player 1 slot is the one that is on the very front of the Wii.

P.S. you were actually able to find a Wavebird in a store?  ever since they discontinued them, Wavebirds (new, not used) have been selling for $50+ on eBay.

  2. you have to be sure you are plugging it into controller socket 1. Try blowing on the reciever if it doesnt work. and also blow into the sockets since the wii is facing up the dust can built up very very easily if its in a verticle position.

It is probably a problem with your wii, because my GCN controllers work just fine. I am not sure if the band or channel might be different for the controller and reciever, is the receiver light blinking or is it still.

if you cant do anything then call nintendo at their number at 1800-255-3700

The last thing I would recommend if nothing at all works and your warranty is expired is to just get a used game cube for $25, they are very reliable systems and I dont think they will have as many problems as your wii does.

EDIT: oh, well its good now that you found it out, I did the same mistake as you the first time I plugged it in. But I checked the number in the control socket and it is the one closest to you.
