I can adjust my eye lenses manually, is this normal?

I was told that focusing of the eyes is supposed to be autonomous. But I can blur and focus eye lenses manually. If I put on someones glasses I can adjust my eyes to match their prescription.

Is this really rare, or do many other people have this ability to?

  1. It's this wonderful thing called 'youth'- younger people have amazing ability in terms of accommodating for even severe refractive errors (glasses that aren't your prescription temporarily produce such an artificial error)

  2. Nearly all young people can easily adjust their focus, some better than others. You lose this ability as you age, and that it why in your 40's you start to need reading glasses.
