  1. ..

Likely, on a day when you haven't biked, you can run more than three minutes.

On a very small level you experience what a number of novice (like myself) and not-so-novice triathletes experience when they go from the bike portion of the triathlon to the run.  What I've noticed is that although running obviously requires pounding on the pavement, it does use the quadriceps (the muscles on the front of the upper leg) and to a lesser extent the hamstrings (the muscles on the back of the upper leg).

As does cycling.  So, when you switch over to running, even later in the day, you are using muscles that were stressed earlier in the day; they're tired, unable to move (contract) as well as you'd want!

Try running before biking, and see what the results are, you may be surprised!

    Regards,

    Phil

  2. your using different muscles using a stationary bike to running.  Cycling (especially road cycling - doing hills) can give you good cardio and works well as a cross training for running or visa versa.  If you can run up to 3 minutes, try walking for 1 and repeat 5X for 3 days/ week, and following week, run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute, week after, run 5 minutes, walk 1, continue to build up to 10 minutes.  Eventually you will be able to continue running with out stopping as much (or any stops).  Conditioning takes time.

  3. Hello,

You should be able to answer your own question.  When sitting in a stationary position, you are using your lower body and legs, when running you are exerting a lot more energy,so,what do you think the results will be?

  4. THE BIKE ISNT GIVING YOU THE PROPER CARDIO WORKOUT FOR YOUR HEART ITS WORKING YOUR LEGS NOT YOUR HEART TRY RUNNING AROUND THE BLOCK THEN THE NEXT DAY ABIT FURTHER AND SO ON AND SO FOURTH I PLAYED SOCCER FOR 16 YEARS AND EVERY YAR I WOULD HAVE TO GET BACK IN SHAPE AND RUNNING WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER, LOOK BETTER, FEEL STRONG, AND MAKE YOUR HEART HEATHIER TRUST ME! :  )

  5. though biking is a good workout for the legs, it does not provide the same cardio strain as running by a long shot. im a runner and i bike really hard once a week for up to an hour. but, if ur only biking and not running, you will definitely not be ready for running.

go to runnersworld.com for more intense biking workouts under strength and cross training

then try running more and biking less if ur goal is to become a better runner

  6. Staionary bikes don't require your muscles to work as hard and some muscles aren't really used... Running is way more effective even on a treadmill and if you really want to work your muscles incline the treadmilll.....

    Get a treadmill!
