... but WHY only SOMETIMES? Not ALL at the SAME TIME? What could I be doing wrong?

I could never "perfect" my round (by my standards which is 90 on a par 72 course)

Always when I improve on an aspect of my game... another part of my game suffers. Therefore resulting in the same score. everytime. ALWAYS!

Ill be good at driving this week, be good at putting the next but the score always remain the same!

~sigh... forever story of my game.

But WHY!?

    all the best

    Ian :)

  2. yeah me to

have you had lessons yet, i think its best to have them early on so you dont get into bad habits, i went for some lessons after bout 10 months of picking up a golf club and was amazed at how much i was doing wrong. i only had 2 half hour lessons and its money well spent believe me ask at your local club it only costs about the same as a round but very rewarding.

  3. lol... it takes years to become consistant at golf... what makes you think you're going to do it after 10 months? I've been playing longer than you've been alive and yet in one round of golf I will hit a 325 yard drive and slice the c**p out of the next one.

Believe me when I say... it's you! You probably don't even realize the suptle changes in your swing that cause that errant shot.

  4. I'm in the same boat.  It seems the only answer is "Practice, practice, practice".  Take some lessons.  And have fun!

  5. WOW your "even Steven". Like you, every time i took two steps forward some how I'd follow with three steps back. Just keep swinging away, keep playing, and evolution and a better game has to follow. Good luck.

  6. mbl is absolutely correct.  I suggest you quit thinking 90. Start thinking 80 or 75.  Convince yourself you are already a 90 shooter.

  7. Thats the million dollar question if you ask me! Golf is a mental game and in order to score well you need to have a great mental game. Try to be confident and don't get angry when you hit a bad shot. Try to practice with a purpose instead of raking out balls at the range.

  8. This is a common phenomenon that is easily explainable-at least for me it is.  We all have a comfort zone. For you that is around 90.  Your strengths and weaknesses have a way of balancing themselves out so that you stay within your personal comfort zone. It's been referred to as fear of success.  If you put it all together, you might shoot 78 and that can be a scary thought, believe it or not. Take your focus off your score and just try to execute the next shot as best as possible.

  9. You already have some degree of technique or you could not have your "good" days.  What you need to do is refine the technique and make it more consistent.  Other responses have a lot of good ideas starting with taking lessons.  Two reasons.  The lessons will get the anomalies out of your swing that make you hit one club well and other clubs not so well.  I'm sure you have had days you could hit short and mid irons but not your woods for example. This can be small things that creep into your swing without you realizing it.  If you are hitting down on the ball well you may hit your irons well but for your woods you need to sweep the ball a little more.  A teaching pro will help you to make the changes in your set-up to allow you to hit well in both cases.  They will also work on your fundamentals that are more important than most folks recognize.  You have to have the right posture and grip or you cannot make the right swing.  If you do not maintain balance during the swing then it will be different each time.  To be consistent you have to have good fundamentals.  Others have suggested you focus less on your score for now.  I agree. Focus on just hitting each shot as well as possible and your score will come down.. Practice your shots from 100 yards in and you will reduce your score faster than anything else you can do.  Everybody mises greens but it will not matter if you can chipwell enough to get up and down consistently.

  10. you need to stop thinking about reaching 90 and focus more on your ability to swing the golf club. As long you think about breaking 90 it will wipe out your game. Spend more time on practice your short game and throw in a few lessons. This will help you out a lot. Since you have passion for the game that is plus. good luck

  11. You are probably a little too focused on the 90 number and when you get close to it you put extra pressure on yourself.  Play a few rounds without keeping score and just try to hit the best shot you can each time.  Then when you resume keeping score, maybe have someone you are playing with keep your score and you try not to think about it - you might be surprised how much better you do.

  12. I guess a lot of people having the same problem including pro's. Unfortunately, this is a part of the game. I guess the best way is to find out your biggest weakness and work on it.

  13. Go early in the morning when theres still dew on the ground and nobody else out there but your self when no ones around youll shoot alot better its the law of physics

  14. I really like mbl's answer.  Combine that with a couple of lessons and that should get you pointed in the right direction.  I think I need to follow this advice as well!
