I have light skin and hair, which makes me wonder if i should even attempt the smokey eye shadow look. Fashion magazines over do it sometimes, i don't want to end up looking like a raccoon. But i think it looks nice on a lot of women for night events.

Also, would it be okay to use the same technique for smokey eyes, only with a lighter color for daytime events and should it match your outfit, or not?

  1. simple black eyeliner black mascara, a tad of black or grey eyeshadow to the lids. Some people but on mascara then take a steam shower without getting their face wet so the mascara smear just a little to make the perfect smokey look.

This lady is really good at doing eye make-up. She has like a bunch of little tutorials to help you achieve any eye make-up technique, some of them are even inspired by some celebrities. =)

    Hope this helps.

  6. since your paler don't use the black eyeliner and all that darkness for the look. Use lighter colours.

You do not have to use black. Kate hudson has used blue. Now a lot of people think that the Pamela Anderson smokey eye is the only one but it isn't. You should go for the subtle look. Do this by applying a gray eyeshadow colour. Apply only on your eyelid ( the mobile part) and smudge up and out slowly. Do not go past your brow bone or it will look bad. Apply a black eyeliner along your top lashes. You can also take an eyeshadow brush and carfully apply the shadow on the outer third along your lower lashes and make that go up and out to blend in with the colour from your upper lid. Lastly apply mascara.

If you go to light you will look washed out, if you go to dark you will look much paler. So start light and apply it darker slowly untill you are use to the routine.

Other colours you can play around with are darker blues, purples and greens and sometimes a brown. Not all of these colours will look good on you so find the ones that will.  And remember it is all about blending, so make sure you blend it should be the darkest around the lashes and fade up and out. During the day time do not have it go as far out and up as in a night time look.

If you ever end up with a racoon eye during the day it is just your make up falling out of place. Fix it up by make-up removing the bad spots and reapplying. Before hand you can use an eyeshadow primer (or just foundation) to keep your eyeshadow in place.

I hope this helps you. These are just guidlines that work for general people. You may find (as you do your make-up) techniques that work for you. So play around and do your own thing!

  7. You can do a smokey eye with any color -light or dark depending on how dramatic you want. heres the key, you need a blunding brush, DO NOT attemt it with a sponge applicator, you will fail trust me. Start packing the darkest color on your lid with your blending brush do SOFT circles into  the crease, also as you blend into the crease do so with a color a few shades up from the dark one you used on your lid. This is a buildable look so start out subtle till you reach the look your going for.- Add eyeliner (pencil) but instead of a solid line, smudge it into your lashes, that will enhance the smokey eye look, it takes practice but if you use the right brush (try #224 from MAC) youll catch the hang of it, try not to over do it, less is more in this case..Pair with a light natural lipstick, your eyes are the focus..as far as matching the outfit? thats cool!

  8. ctually you won't look good w/ smokey eyes, sorri. instead for a nite look, brush thru ur lashes w/ maybelline's great lash mascara. and comb thru to loosen occasional clumps. then line the top lids w/ a black liner (not pencil cause it can pull lids skin and cause wrinkles or cause irritation!). but line ur bottom lids barely (waterline only) w/ a brown liner. this will make ur eyes radiant!!

  9. Well first of all, you need eyeliner (black) and two or three shades of grey/black eyeshadow.  Mascara is also good.

Firstly, you need to find which smoky shades suit you.  For me it is light silvery grey, a greyish navy blue and dark grey.  Same for the eyeliner.  Mine is actually called smoky black!

Now you need to apply your eyeshadow.  I have put a link to this answer to show you how, as it is harder to write down and explain, although it is only a detailed guide.  I also used it, but now I have perfected it, I sort of change it slightly to how I like it.

    Hope this has helped!

PS:  I know that on the video it says only use one colour, but trust me, it is better to use two, or even three once you become a master!  Just blend them carefully with a cotton swab like it says in the video.  A little white can also be blended into your greys etc. to lighten up certain areas if you want to experiment.
