  1. I'm guessing you have DSL.

You have to log into your router and setup PPPoE.  When you choose PPPoE from your router you will have to put in the user name and password provided by your ISP.

Also, it seems like your browser has been configured to make this connection.  You need to goto the Internet Options and remove the part where it makes the connection.

I know this isn't very detailed, but it is hard to explain it all step by step.  Your ISP should be able to help you step by step, especially if you have AT&T.

  2. is it a wireless router, or a hard-wire router?

    Is it brand new?

Have you tried using it with the fresh out of the box configuration?  Those things are setup to work right away.  if you have changed settings, push the reset button for the count of 15 and then restart the router and see if you can get online then.

If it is wired, plug your internet service modem into a port that is not the "internet" port, but one of the open ports that you would use for the other computers.  This will cause the router to work like a hub and it will then make your connection complete.  The router and your DSL/Cable modem will hold different addresses, and if you try to use the router right out of the box like a router, you will have conflicts.  If you use it as a hub, it will not have conflicts.

THEN.... you may have to reboot your computer to ensure you have an appropriate and working IP address for your internet connection.

If you get stuck, I can be emailed.

  3. I would check to see if you have the "green" lights that are supposed to be on. Call the Internet Provider to make sure they can see the modem and it is working correctly. I would also try to connect your computer directly without the router to make sure your network card is working correctly.

  4. You need to change PPPoE to automatic DHCP. (I think that's the setting.) Change the one that doesn't require a username or password, if you have DSL or cable. Pretty much anything that doesn't require you to dial in or provide a password. PPPoE is only if you need to enter a username and password to connect to the internet.

    Hope this helps.

  5. unplug the router and plug it back up..

  6. Call linksys 800 number.

  7. well you need to have more info here so I can help you. If your there then you just need to look on the bottom of your router for the SID enter that.  Also don't forget if your useing Windows XP you need to setup the computer for a network..

    Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>

Then setup your PC for a network

BTW linksys always gives problems.......Read the link below it will help. Also I noticed some people saying that you should call your Internet provider. They wont help you unless you buy the product from them or they will charge you. That's how it is here in CT anyways. If you have any questions add me and I will help you out.

    Good Luck,

    Rick

  8. PPPoE stands for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. Why are you using PPPoE? Are you configuring Verizon ATM for FiOS. Open your webrowser and type in about:config to reexamine your settings.

  9. you have to notify your internet provider and let them know you have a new router

  10. if you have the manual, try to configure it manually

  11. that happens a lot to me, try resetting the router by pressing the button

  12. I had this problem too.

I just went to Embarq, which is my internet provider, and they recommended a 2Wire router.

I think the 2Wire works a lot better and it's more secure because you need a WEP address to register the computer to access the internet which means that it will be pretty much impossible for anyone to feed off of your internet connection. It is very easy and I would recommend it to anyone.

  13. Your internet provider can probably help.  I know I had trouble the first time I tried logging on, but my provider was able to talk me through the trouble quickly.  Good luck.

  14. remove all linksys software reboot  start over them put CD in drive try once more .......some time it can be a problem with you ISP ,also when you get on line go to the web site to upgrade
