I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian who wants to no longer eat eggs, as soon as possible. I am so grossed out right now you have no idea. What are some of the things i need to know about not eating eggs? Thank you so much.

Oh by the way,I never really depended on egg as a protein. I only ate when it was in food already, such as bread.

  1. Congrats on your decision to cut eggs out of your diet. There is an egg replacement powder called "EnerG Egg Replacer" that you can use to make baked goods. Health food stores usually carry it.

Naan (Indian bread) and Snickers bars contain eggs... mayo does too.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

  2. hmm im like that right now but i reallie like eggs but in my culture (buddhism) they give negative energy u wil  just miss baking and using it as an ingrediant those egg replacer products contain white eggs u no that right? doesn't mean u can bake just not as stable my cookies turned out fine without it i think i used corn starch with water and it was perfect ^^ hmm if u have cracvings for sweets u can get any chip ahoy they all dont contian eggs ^^ oh i will make it for ffriend but for my family i use other things i just luv baking so much ^^

  3. Way to go!

Just watch out for baked goods...

  4. I know that if I were to quit eating eggs that I would be giving up an excellent food source.

  5. no mayonaise, no ranch dressing

  6. Just use veganaise or nayonaise instead of mayo.  That's all I can think of.  I haven't eaten eggs in over a year and I'm alive to tell about it!

When you're baking a cake use applesauce instead of eggs.  Fry tofu instead of making scrambled eggs too if you want to.

  7. Real sandwich bread contains eggs... it's the supermarket super soft Wonder type breads that don't contain eggs.

If you're not reliant on eggs for protein, then you should be fine.  There are other nutrients in eggs, especially the yolk, but if you supplement your diet you won't miss out on much.

  8. So your giving up eggs, but not dairy? If this is so you will not have to worry about much since you will get all the: iron, B12 and calcium, your missing from eggs by eating dairy. If your not going to eat eggs or dairy you have to make sure your getting enough of these in you diet. Some vegans take a daily multivitamin with B12.

  9. Thank you for caring about the animals!

There's nothing you need to know, really. Oh, there is one thing - you don't need to be nearly as worried about cholesterol, whoopee!

You can replace eggs in baking easily, there are loads of alternatives for different recipes you can find on the Internet easily enough.

Scrambled tofu can mimic scrambled eggs, you might be interested to know.

The only thing you might miss is fried eggs, but that's not a big deal!

I'd recommend doing some research about the milk industry, as well, you'll probably feel the same way about that. This leaflet is quite informative:

  10. since you only need so much protein a day,  why are we worried about protein?

why are we worried about iron?

why are we worried about any mineral and vitamin content?

    listen:

this list is of the common fruits and veggies,  their information also.

you will see there's no problem.

besides.. protein in meats and dairy are more than what we need for a whole week, sometimes a month.

that's why we have coronary artery disease among other things.

you really only need some protein daily and veggies and fruits are more than compensating for this requirement.     among other elements.

this goes for chemically infested processed foods also.

a vegetarian diet of fresh fruits and veggies alone is more than enough!

trust me on this.   i wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't true.   i've been a vegetarian since a baby,  not because of a choice of my parents in any ethical sense...   but my body didn't care for the proteins and other elements and i just cramped up, was in dire pain and other complications.

so i was started on soy and basic vegetarian alternatives.    most of it was mush until a toddler but i didn't mind.

i'm still a strict vegetarian today and no i'm not a dwarf,  my genitals aren't shrunken and nothing weird is going on about me physically.

protein is in all things  just come on already..  most meat has more protein than we need for a 30 day average.   this is why most are on medication,  have cholesterol and triglyceride issues and have many disease of the digestive tract and circulartory systems let alone the endocrine system and respiratory system.

eat mommy  natures reserve...  she does put out don't she?

by the way eggs aren't a very good protein source, nor is meat.  since most of that protein is from dead fatty element which makes is dense and when converted it primarily becomes plaque in the arteries than energy.....    to cut to the chase though about eggs..     one egg is a cholesterol giant.. containing 200 mg of cholesterol.     that's more than you need at any time.

  11. Actually there are quite a few breads that contain eggs.  There are a lot of replacements you can use:

    (From VegCooking)

    Other Egg Replacement Options

        ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 2 Tbsp. potato starch

        ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 1/4 cup mashed potatoes

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 1/4 cup canned pumpkin or squash

        ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 1/4 cup puréed prunes

        ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 2 Tbsp. water + 1 Tbsp. oil + 2 tsp. baking powder

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg = 1 Tbsp. ground flax seed simmered in 3 Tbsp. water

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ 1 egg white = 1 Tbsp. plain agar powder dissolved in 1 Tbsp. water, whipped, chilled, and whipped again

    Egg Replacement Tips

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ If a recipe calls for three or more eggs, it is important to choose a replacer that will perform the same function (i.e., binding or leavening).

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ Trying to replicate airy baked goods that call for a lot of eggs, such as angel food cake, can be very difficult. Instead, look for a recipe with a similar taste but fewer eggs, which will be easier to replicate.

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ When adding tofu to a recipe as an egg replacer, be sure to purée it first to avoid chunks in the finished product.

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ Be sure to use plain tofu, not seasoned or baked, as a replacer.

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ Powdered egg replacers cannot be used to create egg recipes such as scrambles or omelets. Tofu is the perfect substitute for eggs in these applications.

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ If you want a lighter texture and you’re using fruit purées as an egg substitute, add an extra 1/2 tsp. baking powder. Fruit purées tend to make the final product denser than the original recipe.

ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€Â¢ If you’re looking for an egg replacer that binds, try adding 2 to 3 Tbsp. of any of the following for each egg: tomato paste, potato starch, arrowroot powder, whole wheat flour, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, instant potato flakes, or 1/4 cup tofu puréed with 1 Tbsp. flour.

Also, mayo has egg as do many creamy dressings, and a lot of pastas contain egg as well.  For example, all of Olive Garden's pastas contain egg as does their salad dressing so you can't eat anything there...I think their breadsticks do too, but I'm not sure on that one.

For boxed cake mixes I just use a can of soda (instead of the oil, eggs and water) or banana, just in place of the egg.

  12. For one thing, bread does not contain eggs. (unless you are talking about french toast here)  Most cakes and cookies are made out of eggs however.  Pie crust in general does not contain eggs.  Meringue topping does have egg whites in it.  So no banana cream pie :p

I would make a habit out of looking on labels--you must already do that if you are a vegetarian.  :)
