why dont you try diff angles and practice a couple of faces in the mirror..with flash..without flash..with the light on in the background..with the light off..the key is to pretend that the camera's not in front of you

Well it depends what you want to take a picture of and what you need it for. Just go take a picture of a pet, something outside like flowers, the clouds, trees, etc..,.. or if your taking a picture of yourself, mess around with settings on your camera to make them cooler.. also try with flash, without flash....do different angles...different light exposures...
