I can perform better than Timo Glock: Jerome d’Ambrosio
Jerome d’Ambrosio recently signed with Virgin Racing Team and it seems that he believes that he can perform better than his teammate Timo Glock in his debut season this year.
Virgin Racing Team became a part of Formula 1 last year alongside two other new teams, namely Hispania Racing Team (HRT) and Lotus Racing Team. None of the these three teams were able to secure a single point and it was quite disappointing to see them finish
at the very back, race after race.
D’Ambrosio will replace Lucas di Grassi in Virgin Racing Team and he believes that if he somehow manages to stay ahead of Glock since the beginning, he might impress the team and spectators a lot with his driving skills and thinking abilities on the track.
It was also revealed that Virgin is going to be one of the last teams to launch its 2011 car, the VR-02 for this season. Nevertheless, d’Ambrosio is not worried about this problem and believes that he will not be hindered by the lack of track time as the
season progresses.
“Obviously it is difficult for me to say how good our car will be. There are many new features this year that weren't there last season, so I have to wait and see how the car is when we test it for the first time,” d'Ambrosio said.
Jerome finished in second place in a Renault at the young driver’s test in Abu Dhabi in November behind Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo but he managed to finish ahead of drivers like Sam Bird and Gary Paffett.
“I did well in the Friday sessions I ran last year, and I didn't have much track time then. I am entering my first season in F1, so for sure the learning curve is certainly steeper for me than it is for my team-mate,” he added.
Since this is going to be his first season in Formula 1, the young driver is expecting some good results as soon as this year’s season begins in Bahrain on the 13th of March.
“I have a lot to learn, but I am fast, confident in my abilities and able to learn tracks very quickly so I think I can push Timo hard and for sure, on occasion I think I can beat him,” he said.
