I can print from my computer, but not scan to it - what's wrong?

I have a HP Photosmart C4280 All in one Printer Scanner Copier and an iMac. The printer is plugged in and hooked up to the Mac with a USB cable. I am able to print from it with no problem, however, when I try to scan something to the computer, it tells me that there is no USB connected. I have checked all the connections, the manual doesn't cover this, and I'm at a loss... Anyone know how I can get something scanned to my computer?

I had the same problem when I bought my new macbook. I called up HP or apple (I forget which) and they gave me a download that would allow the printer to be able to scan from leapord. Mac OX leapord is not compatible with the software HP uses to scan. You need to download something that will allow it to be compatible. Now, I can scan things to my computer with no problem.
